Martha Hendley

Martha J. ( Turner ) Hendley 85, of Savannah, Georgia went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 14, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Graymont, Georgia on February 27, 1941.  She was the daughter of the late Rufus ( Bud ) Turner and Grace Turner.  She was a long term member of Southside Baptist Church. She loved the Lord, her ladies in her Sunday school class, her pastors and their families, as well as many other friends at church. She was known for making delicious cakes for events at church and volunteered to assist with functions as she could. She worked for their family business as bookkeeper until they sold it.  She loved being around people and never met a stranger.

Martha was married to the late Obie Hendley on April 12, 1958, whom she loved dearly. They loved traveling together and spending quality time with family playing games and enjoying each others company. She is preceded by her parents, Rufus and Grace Turner and brother Wayne Turner, ( Cheryl his widow ).  She leaves behind her children, CDR Franklin Jeffery “Jeff” Hendley, United States Navy retired, and his wife Michelle and Kenneth “Ken” James Hendley, and his wife Toni, all of Savannah; her Grandchildren, E-5 Zachary Scott Hendley, United States Air Force, and his wife Andrea, stationed in Arizona, and Joshua Ryan Hendley of Savannah: several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4:00p.m. - 6:00p.m. on Sunday September 20, 2026 at Southside Baptist Church and funeral service will be held on Monday September 21, 2026 at 10:00a.m. at Southside Baptist Church with graveside service to follow at Greenwich Cemetery.

So very sorry for the loss of Martha. I hadn't know Martha but about a year and I loved visiting with her.She is walking the streets of gold today.I will miss her so much and I know her family will. God Bless You all! What an example of Christ love she left us with!!!

My deepest condolences to Martha's family and friends. My mother Joyce Finley (Turner) and Martha were cousins but were more like sisters. After my mother passed in 2019 Martha and I reconnected. She was so kind and loving to my family when we visited. It was like having a little piece of my mom, to be there and listen to stories of the past. She was the kind of person that would worry if you had eaten and wanted to feed you before you left. A true angel in life, as she will continue to be in passing. I'm heartbroken with you all...

Ken and Toni and family, We are so sorry to hear of Martha's passing. She was a neighbor, a friend, and a sister in Christ. She was loved deeply by everyone, especially her Sunday school sisters. She loved her Lord and was an example of His Light and love. She was a faithful servant and made the best blueberry cake on the whole earth. She will be missed, but it is a comfort to know she is “home”, and in the presence of Jesus , our Lord and Saviour. We are comforted to know we will be with her again.
