David Macchi of Savannah passed away on September 10, 2026, at Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, FL, surrounded by his family, after complications from surgery.

Born in Framingham, MA, Dave was the beloved husband of Janis Macchi for almost 30 years. Together, they built a life filled with family, travel, adventure, and unwavering support for each other. David was a proud father to twins David John Macchi and Madeline Leigh Macchi Haley.

David was a lifelong learner and spent over four decades working for General Motors (GM) in various assembly plants across the country, including time as a GM Global Quality Manager. After retiring from GM, David earned his Master's in Education and worked for Savannah Chatham County School District as a Special Education teacher for 20 years, spending most of his teaching career at his beloved Isle of Hope School.  In addition, David also spent over a decade working part-time for Home Depot, where he became part of the Home Depot family on Victory Drive, Savannah. He loved golf and played at St. Andrews (Scotland), Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, Sawgrass, and many more courses close to home. David also played hockey and loved football. He delighted in watching the Boston Bruins and the Patriots. David was also a staple at the annual Savannah St. Patrick’s Day Parade and enjoyed hosting his many friends for this annual event.

David’s greatest joy was his family. He taught his children by example—showing patience, generosity, wit, and the importance of hard work.

He is survived by his wife, Janis; his loving children, Madeline and David; and his stepchildren, Brad, Jennifer, Michael, and Austin. He is also survived by his sister, Helen; his brother, Bobby; and many dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Julia, and his brother Fred.

Funeral arrangements are: Visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2026, followed by Mass at The Cathedral Basilica of St. John in Savannah. Interment immediately following at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in memory of David Macchi to support Cardiology Research at Mayo Clinic.
