James Joseph “Jimmy” Sheehan, 74, entered into eternal rest on September 5, 2026, at St. Joseph’s Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Lynchburg, Virginia on April 25, 1952, Jimmy was the son of the late Gerard Martin Sheehan and Margaret Mary Moore Sheehan. He was raised in Lynchburg, where he graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1970, before completing his undergraduate studies with a B.A. from Belmont Abbey College in 1974.

Following his graduation, Jimmy relocated to Savannah to join his family after his father's employment transfer with American Cyanamid. Jimmy worked in various capacities throughout Savannah, most notably dedicating many years of meaningful service to the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. A man of deep faith and a gentle spirit, he took immense pride in serving his church community. Jimmy also possessed a lifelong love of music and was a gifted guitarist who found great happiness in the melodies of the Beatles.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Gerard Sheehan, and a nephew, Martin Francis Sheehan.

He is survived by his child, Liam Joseph Gerard Sheehan (Lia); his brother, Martin Francis Sheehan (Kristine); his sister-in-law, Therese Koncul Sheehan; his nieces and nephews, Laura Elizabeth Sheehan, Patrick Paul Sheehan, Margaret Sims Sheehan, Andrew Patrick Sheehan, and Mary Kristine Sheehan; and many dear friends.

The Sheehan family extends their heartfelt appreciation to his loyal friends Chris Roberts, Mike O’Brien, and Pat O’Brien for their enduring support. Special thanks are also given to Dr. Bhavesh G. Patel and the NICU nursing team at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassionate care.

In remembrance of Jimmy, the family asks that an act of kindness be extended to someone.

Funeral Services: Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow immediately at Greenwich Cemetery.
