Mary Faye New Cunningham, a lifelong resident of Savannah, passed away at home on September 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Faye was born on October 28, 1943, in Savannah. She graduated from Savannah High School, where she was named a beauty queen.

As a young woman, Faye helped her mother run a boarding house. She later worked for Minnie Oaks Dental, Clifton Equipment, and Atlantic Waste.

Faye never met a stranger. She loved people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She seemed to know everyone in Savannah, and everyone knew and remembered her. She was full of fun and brought laughter and energy wherever she went.

Faye enjoyed fishing, going to the beach, spending time outdoors, and, most of all, being with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James D. New and Irma Outler New; her brothers, Gene New and Dennie New; and her sister, Jan New.

Faye is survived by her sons, Charles A. L. Cunningham IV and James Cunningham and his wife, Karen; her grandchildren, Troup Cunningham and Caroline Cunningham; her brother, Dudley New; and other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
