Jacqualand “Jackie” Burn, born October 4, 1958, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love after returning home from Memorial Hospital under the care of Hospice.

A lifelong Tybee Island native and a true Tybeeian, Jackie was born and raised on the island she loved and called home throughout her life.

Jackie was well known to so many as the “J” in A-J’s Dockside Restaurant on Tybee Island, a place that became much more than a business. It was a gathering place for friends, neighbors, visitors, and generations of families.

Before beginning her life in the restaurant business, Jackie worked for several years at the Savannah Morning News. She and her husband, Alan, later embarked on a new adventure together, purchasing a tour boat and starting Jolly Mon Dolphin Tours. They operated the tour business on the Back River of Tybee Island, sharing their love of the water, wildlife, and island life with countless visitors.

That adventure eventually led them into the restaurant business. In January 2003, Jackie and Alan opened A-J’s Dockside Restaurant. For the next 22 years, Jackie helped make A-J’s a beloved part of the Tybee Island community. After more than two decades of welcoming guests, working alongside employees who often became like family, and creating countless memories, Jackie retired at the end of 2025.

As much as Jackie worked hard, she also knew how to enjoy life. She loved camping on the lakes with the friends they affectionately considered their “other family,” where countless memories were made around the campground and on the water. She loved going on cruises, traveling, and spending some quality time in the casinos whenever she had the chance.

One of the most meaningful moments of Jackie’s final days came while she was still in the hospital, when many of her beloved “A-J’s kids” gathered around her. Cindy, Bethany, Kate, Candace, Kappy, Joey, and Tatum came together in what felt like a reunion of sorts. Little Sarah and Stephen would come later. These were not simply former employees or coworkers, but part of the extended family Jackie had gathered around her over the years. Their presence was a beautiful reminder of the love, loyalty, and lasting bonds created through A-J’s. There is no doubt Jackie felt the love surrounding her.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Lawson and Dot; her brother, Wayne Yeo; and her sister, Susie.

She leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Alan; her children, Ashley and his wife, Britney, Heather and her husband, Jason; and her beloved grandchildren, Ashton, Avery, Makenzie, and Brayden.

Above all else, Jackie’s greatest joy was the people she loved. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a proud grandmother, and a fiercely loyal friend. After 41 years of marriage, Alan will carry with him a lifetime of memories made together through family, work, travel, laughter, hardships, and countless adventures. Her children and grandchildren were an enormous source of pride and happiness, and the love she gave them will remain a part of who they are. Jackie leaves behind an absence that can never truly be filled, but also a life so full of love, laughter, friendship, and memories that those who knew her will continue to feel her presence for years to come.
