With gratitude and sorrow, we announce that Nancy Neal Daley Mersereau, 72, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 30, 2026.
Born September 10, 1953, in Omaha, NE, Nancy was the daughter of the late Capt. Alex F. Daley, USAF (Ret.), and Marion Tyson Daley of Savannah, GA. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1971 and attended the School of Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia. A registered nurse by profession and “Nurse Nancy” to those who knew and loved her, she spent her career caring for others in a variety of nursing roles, including NICU, triage, minor emergency care, and elementary school nursing.
Nancy loved Jesus, and she loved life—with a particular appreciation for all of its beautiful, ordinary pleasures. She loved blue and white platters, the Dawgs, a good lipstick, a Saturday spent antiquing at Scott’s, and a crisp white blouse. She loved a lively political debate, long walks in nature, shopping with her girls, Chick-fil-A, setting a glamorous table, Kevin Costner and Robert Redford, family picnics at the hunting camp, local Savannah shrimp, tending her mint and herb garden, sharing American and Georgia history with her grandchildren, keeping up with friends on Facebook, her husband’s venison pot roast, and, perhaps most of all, the simple ritual of daily visits to the Tybee pier.
She was the wife of Timothy Daggett Mersereau, who retired to Nancy’s beloved hometown of Savannah, GA, to care for her and honor their 51 years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of two daughters, Margaret Holly Mersereau Roberts and her husband, Matt, and Mary Mersereau Purvis and her husband, Nathan. She was a cherished grandmother, lovingly known as Gee, to Anna Roberts, Nathan Purvis, Jr., Reed Roberts, Jr., Porter Roberts, Julia Purvis, and Rose Purvis. She was also a treasured sister to Susan Daley Powell and her brother, Col. Alex F. Daley, MD, USAF (Ret.), and his wife, Lynne.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Bonaventure Cemetery on Friday, September 4, at 12 noon, 330 Bonaventure Road, Savannah, GA 31404.
Nancy’s joy in life was her faith and her church. She loved attending Sunday morning services with a congregation she considered her family. Memorial donations may be sent to Grace Church of the Islands, 6901 Concord Road, Savannah, GA 31410.
Nancy lived on East 65th. Street in the same 100 block as we did on Brandywine Road, back in school days. She was a year younger in school than my sister Barbara, and we were familiar neighbors when it seemed most of the midtown children knew each other through school or childhood activities. I'm sorry that Nancy has passed away, taking her loving heart to a new eternal life. May she rest in peace and that her memories forever comfort her loved ones.

I knew Nancy and Tim at Grace Church on Wilmington Island. Nancy was always sweet and quite a dapper dresser with her hats each Sunday. She will be missed by all of us at Grace Church. Much love goes out to Tim and the rest of the family as the grieve the loss of the lovely woman.

So many wonderful things to say about my friend Nancy. We worked together for several years as advice, nurses with Kaiser Permanente. But prior to us working together, we knew each other from our church days. I guess that makes us friends for over 40 years. We shared lots of stories about our children and family over the years. We tried to solve the worldâs problems as well, lol. We rode together to work when we job shared at Kaiser. Nancy had a lot of spunk and you could always know she had an opinion, especially about politics. She was well-versed in what was going on in the world. She was such a devoted, mother and wife. I always admired that about Nancy. I will miss you, my friend . I have missed talking to you over the last few years. But I know now you are free and enjoying heaven! But we will sure miss you here. Love you always!

Sincere Love and Prayers for comfort and peace to Tim, Sue, Holly, Mary and all of Nancy's family. I met Nancy through Sue "YEARS" ago and we immediately became friends. All of Nancy's girls (Sue, Holly, Mary, and Lainie) were and are the most stylish and fun to be with. Our Thanksgivings at the lake and trips to New York were unforgetable,happy memories!! Bob and I are so sorry for your loss. I got to know Nancy over the backyard fence at Providence Club. With both of us being nurses, we always had lots to talk about. She introduced me to BSF, which changed my life. Nancy was a wonderful, sweet person who will be greatly missed.
