Cecil Bidwell Ballard, 85, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on August 5, 2026, in hospice care after a short illness. Born in Savannah on May 16, 1941, he remained rooted in the city he called home throughout his life
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Violette Ballard and brother Charles Ballard Jr.
A 1959 graduate of Savannah High School. He worked at Union Camp and went on to complete Basic Training and Avionics School. He joined the Georgia Air National Guard 165th at Travis Field and served in the Air National Guard and Civil Service for 37 years.
He was known as an honest, hardworking, strong, dependable, and devoted man. Qualities that guided both his work and his life. No matter the problem, Cecil had a way of finding a solution, and those who knew him came to rely on his steady presence and practical mind.
He married Patricia Dutcher Ballard, the love of his life, and together they shared a lasting marriage of 64 years 9 days until his death. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his children, Doreen Ballard Godbee of Savannah and Christopher Brian Ballard (Cheryl) of Woodstock, Ga ; and his grandchildren, Norah Lee Godbee (“Hutch”) of Bloomingdale , Lindsey Ballard Ostrowidzki (Reeves) Canton, Ga, Landon Ballard (Victoria) Woodstock, Ga , and Great granddaughter Amelia June Ballard.
Cecil enjoyed travel, cruising, bowling and making cast-nets (in his earlier days). He had a heart for those less fortunate and would buy those who were hungry a hot meal. These interests were part of a life lived with purpose and quiet enjoyment.
A service will be held on August 22, 2026 at 11:00a.m., a visitation will take place one hour prior at The Crossroads Baptist Church. Cecil Bidwell Ballard will be remembered with love and respect by his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
