Celebrating the life of

Agnes Ivette "Betty" Perelez

Passed away on November 02, 2019

Agnes Ivette

It is with great sadness and profound grief that the Perelez family returns their beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Agnes Ivette (“Betty”) Perelez, 67, into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Known by so many as “Ms. Betty,” she died Saturday, November 2 at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona following a brief illness. Her devoted daughter, Neysa, was at her bedside as she surrendered to her second battle with cancer and embraced eternal salvation and a reunion with her late husband and love of her life, Hector.

Betty was the matriarch and the beloved “Mami” who bonded her close family together following the death of her dear husband, Hector Perelez, in 2014. Filled with joy and enthusiasm for everything she did and everyone she loved, Betty lived a simple life with a grateful spirit and a quick smile. For anyone who knew Betty, they loved her and enjoyed her sense of enthusiasm for the simplest pleasures of life. Over the smallest of kindnesses, Betty would jump up and down and clap her hands with unspeakable joy and inexpressible gratitude.

Betty was born in Puerto Rico in 1952. She and Hector married and had two children in Puerto RIco before moving to the states to join Hector’s brother, Ernie, in Savannah, Georgia. The couple settled into life in Savannah — learning English, teaching their children to appreciate the gifts their new life helped them achieve, and working hard to build a life from nothing in their new home. The family added a granddaughter to their immediate family, and Betty raised her as her own, always proud of being both a grandmother and mother to her youngest.

Many remember “Ms. Betty” from Walmart at Largo Plaza where she served in the Human Resources Department as well as a floor supervisor and zone manager. Later she would work at the larger new Walmarts on Abercorn and on Hwy 17. Many seasonal and full-time employees of Walmart depended on the advice and counsel of “Ms. Betty” and listened to her as she taught them both a work ethic and a desire to lead a good life. Betty was a devoted and dedicated member of the Walmart family for more than 25 years. When Betty was stricken with cancer, she continued to work as much as possible as she bravely fought and won her first battle with the horrible disease that might have slowed her down but never stopped her.

Upon retirement in 2015, Betty moved to Phoenix, Arizona to join her daughter Neysa where she enjoyed being a part of the many activities the family shared. Betty cheered for the Liberty Lions on whose teams her grandson Jace played and loved cheering along with her granddaughter Jayden, a cheerleader — proud that Jayden’s great moves and loud voice mimicked her Puerto Rican roots!

Preceded in death by her beloved parents, Betty leaves behind her son, Hector R. Perelez, Jr (Carrie), of Savannah and her daughters Neysa Perelez Accurso (John) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Elisse Perelez Olson (Devin) of Savannah. “Nina” will always be in the hearts of her precious grandson Jace Accurso, and granddaughters Jayden Accurso, Kiersten Miller, Olivia Stegin, and Layla Perelez. God also blessed her with the birth of her first great-grandson, Everyn Olson, last month. Betty was able to meet him the day before she died. It was an indescribable final joy for her as she surrendered herself to our Lord’s will for her.

Betty also leaves behind her precious and devoted sisters Wanda Rivera, Mildred Aguirre, and Marijulia Aguirre and their beloved husbands, her dear brother in law and his wife, many cousins, nieces, and nephews and countless friends who celebrate her life even while sadly saying goodbye.

Galatians 6:9 tells us to “not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” As we celebrate Betty’s life, we are reminded that she shares in the bountiful harvest of those who have done good, not giving up, and continuing to walk in the way of the Lord. We are all better people for having known Betty Perelez. While the world seems a little darker without her, the heavens are aglow with her loving presence.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 10 from 2-4 PM at Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel. A funeral Mass will follow on Monday, November 11 at 11:00 AM at St. Frances Cabrini Church on Middleground Road celebrated by Fr. Gabe Cummings, Pastor. Following the funeral Mass, there will be a burial at the Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Frances Cabrini Building Fund in Betty's memory.

Please share your remembrances of Betty with her family who finds comfort and peace in knowing so many loved and admired her. Your comments can be added below.

My Condolences goes out to Neysa,Ellise, Hector and the entire Perelez family. Betty loved life and embraced it with all she had. She gave much and asked for very little In return. Every life she came In contact with, changed. We had so many good times at Wal-Mart 0635 and her home. Her home was loud and full of laughter, especially when I would come over because I was afraid of the dog. We would have so much fun. She would dance and Hector would beat the bongos( not the right name but that's what I called them). Rest on my friend in the arms of Jesus. Angela L. Jordan

I still tell that story to this day. I love you so much and I’m here for you in this very sad time. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

As we in our young minds thought we had pulled off the great feat without a hitch would then hear Mrs Betty hollor across the trailer park "Neysita"!!!! We found out on many occasions and tries that we couldn't fool Mrs Betty....hahahaha. My heart and prayers go out to her family as they lay such an amazing soul to rest.
