George

George "Jack" Riley Dukes, 75, passed away in San Diego, California, in 2026 after a long illness.

Born in Georgia in 1950, Jack dedicated his life to music, family, and sharing his passion for percussion with others. A gifted drummer and educator, he graduated from the Percussion Institute of Technology at Musicians Institute in Hollywood, California. Throughout his career, he performed with numerous bands across Georgia, Alabama, and California and was honored to serve as the drummer for country music artist Mel McDaniel.

Jack later founded Drumseed, LLC, where he provided private instruction in snare drum and drum set, while also leading drum circles and performance training. He found great joy in mentoring aspiring musicians and inspiring others through the power of rhythm and music.

Jack was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Dukes of Savannah, Georgia; his father, John Dukes of California; and his sisters, Evangeline Webb of Dublin, Georgia, and Carol Putnam of South Carolina.

He is survived by his four daughters: Wendy Smith of New Jersey, Shannon Moore of Georgia, Samantha Dukes of Savannah, Georgia, and Nicole Geldreich of Tennessee. He also leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many dear friends.

Jack will be remembered for his love of music, his generous spirit, and the lasting impact he made on the lives of his students, fellow musicians, family, and friends. His rhythms continue in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

A private graveside service will be held at the Dukes family plot in Savannah, Georgia.
