Celebrating the life of
Shirley Tomlinson Goodson
June 10, 1932 - June 19, 2026
Shirley Tomlinson Goodson passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, at the age of 94.
Born in Jacksonville, Florida, on June 10, 1932, Shirley moved to Savannah at the age of twelve, where she made her home for the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances McCabe Tomlinson and William "Shelly" Tomlinson, and by her beloved husband, Francis Maxie Goodson, Jr.
Shirley was a 1950 graduate of Commercial High School and a 1952 graduate of Armstrong State College. She was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers before retiring from the Armstrong State College Library.
Shirley's enthusiasm for life and her love of people were reflected in her many community activities. She served as past president of the Blueberry Garden Club, the Windsor Forest Garden Club, and the Happy Geeches. She was also a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Tuesday Lunch Club, two Bunco clubs, the St. Frances Cabrini Women's Club, and the Lady Cobra Club. In addition, she generously volunteered for many years at the Carmelite Monastery.
An eternal optimist, Shirley always believed the cup was half full. Her greatest joy was her family and friends. She loved reading and traveling and especially cherished the many adventures she shared with her dear friend, travel companion, and "partner in crime," Shirley Wilkinson. A longtime communicant of St. James Catholic Church, she later attended St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Cahill (Jones) and Nancy Page (Ernest); her son, Stuart Goodson; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Page (Betsy), Allyson Page, and Remy Page; her great-grandchildren, Michael Coston Page and Remy Lane Page; and her special friend, Shirley Wilkinson.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. The Rosary will follow, and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity or an animal rescue organization.
