Mary Jane Caldwell

Mary Jane Tomlin Caldwell, lovingly known as Jane, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia, at the age of 80.

Born on July 17, 1945, in Savannah, Georgia, Jane was the beloved daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Tomlin. She graduated from Savannah High School in 1963 and, in 1964, married her high school sweetheart, Eugene “Gene” Meredith Caldwell Jr. Their marriage of 62 years was a beautiful example of love, devotion, and family.

Jane retired in 2021 as a Senior Tax Preparer after many years of dedicated service. She was a faithful Christian who believed deeply in Jesus Christ and lived her life with kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family.

Jane found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening, crafting, cross-stitching, needlepointing, and crocheting. She was also a wonderful cook who especially cherished preparing meals for family gatherings during the holidays. She enjoyed cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, spending time camping, and making lasting memories with those she loved most.

Jane is survived by her devoted husband, Eugene “Gene” Meredith Caldwell Jr. and her children (4), grandchildren (17), and great grandchildren (14):

Linda (Daughter) and Keith Hardin, Jackson and Bethany Robertson (Ada-Jane), Jason and Ashley Hardin (Landon, Rylee, Mason).

Daniel (Son) and Susie Caldwell, Joshua and Kylie Caldwell (Emersyn-Jane, Cooper), Maddie Caldwell, Patrick Dean.

She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Tomlin; her brother, Tommy Tomlin; and her sisters, Betty Moore and Judy Byers.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Fox & Weeks Islands Chapel.

Jane and I worked together at Bank of America (NationaBank/C&S) in the mortgage company. She was a patient, diligent and very detail oriented lady. We crossed paths again years later when my husband and I moved to Tybee. Jane was one of a kind- kind being the focus. Prayers be with all who loved her and the family who, I know, are missing her dearly.

- Lisa Dean, Savannah, GA

My deepest condolences. May the family find peace in the knowledge of our Lord, Jesus.
