Celebrating the life of
Kenneth P. McDonald
Passed away on May 20, 2026
Kenneth Presley McDonald passed away on May 20, 2026, surrounded by family. Ken was born March 19, 1954, in Savannah, Georgia. He grew up and was married at First Baptist Church and has been a member of Southside Baptist Church for over forty-five years. While attending Southside, he played in the praise band, sang in the choir, served on the tech team, and was a deacon. Ken was an active member of Christian Businessmen’s Club, sang with the Sons of Jubal, participated in Band of Brothers, and Promise Keepers.
Ken spent his life devoted to careers in sales, food service, computers, and technology. He genuinely loved helping and serving others, and he was deeply appreciated by his customers, coworkers, and friends.
Ken is predeceased by his parents, William Z. McDonald and Allie H. McDonald. He is survived by his wife, Amelia F. McDonald that he dearly loved. He has two precious daughters Christy M. Parker (Carlton), and Sarah M. Fisk (Ryan). He has been richly blessed with nine grandchildren, McKenzie Parker (Grace), Trevor Parker, Kenneth Parker, Callie Rose Parker, Carter Fisk, Annabelle Fisk, Lyric Fisk, Tilly Fisk, and Kenley Fisk. He is also survived by his two siblings: Mary Herrin (Bert), and Mike McDonald (Alice) and four nieces.
In 2020, Ken was overjoyed to discover and connect with his biological family. Although his biological mother had already passed away, he was blessed to meet his four brothers and two sisters and several nieces and nephews. Building those relationships brought him tremendous joy in recent years. His siblings are: Debbie Chrisman, Pete Pierce(Brenda), Mike Pierce (Doris), Janet Mason (David), Tim Pierce (Teresa), and Melvin Pierce (Shelly).
Ken was diagnosed with ALS twelve and a half years ago. He was told by the doctor who diagnosed him he only had a year and a half to two years to live. Ken has been Amelia’s “Miracle Man.” God richly blessed their family with the gift of time, allowing them to create many more treasured memories together. Through the years, Ken and Amelia were blessed with deep friendships, travels to North Carolina, precious time with their girls and their families, and countless moments shared together as a family.
Ken’s unwavering faith in God carried him through every season of life. He will be remembered for his kindness, humor, servant’s heart, and deep love for his family. Though deeply missed, we rejoice knowing he is healed and at peace in the presence of the Lord.
We would like to thank Georgia Hospice Care, for helping us care for Ken this last year and five months. We truly are thankful for Maggie-nurse, Shanteen-CNA, Krista-Social Worker, and Darren-Chaplain.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026 at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel.
The Funeral Service to honor his life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Fox & Weeks, Hodgson Chapel.
Burial will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
I had not seen Ken in years, but when I was young, he was friends with Ross Henderson, who lived across the street and he often went over there to play, so I got to know him pretty well. A coupe of times, Ross went over to Kenny's and took me with him. He was a great guy and fun to be around. I also knew Bill, his dad, in later years. Please accept my sincere condolences. It sounds like he had it all together over the last decade, but I always thought he did way back them, as well. God bless! David Dickey

What a privilege to have known Ken for so many years. He and Amelia always had smiles on their faces and love for everyone. They both have been so strong and full of faith as they walked the journey of ALS. I've been encouraged to follow their example and walk through my own hard times with faith in our God. Amelia, I'm praying for you, the girls and grandchildren as you learn to walk through life without Ken. You have hope, though, and will see him again in heaven. I love you all.

Amelia, I'll always remember you and Ken as one of the first couples we met at church in 1983 when we first moved to Savannah. Those days in Connie Smith's Sunday School Class blessed me so much. So many special friends! And then all of our children grew up together. Precious memories!! I'm thankful that God had our lives reconnect so many years later and that I got to spend a little time with you and Ken. Of course, running into Christy occasionally has been a treat, too. I know these last years have been difficult for all of you, but Ken couldn't have asked for a better partner during his illness. You have handled it all with such love and grace, even during really hard times. I'm praying for you as you go through this time of loss. No matter how much you think you are prepared for “the day” it's still very difficult. So I will continue to pray for you. You can count on that. Sending love and prayers. - Pam
