TIMOTHY JOHN LINDGREN
February 4, 1947 – April 9, 2026
Timothy John Lindgren passed away on April 9, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia, with his family by his side.
Known to his friends as “TL” and affectionately to his grandchildren as “T,” Tim lived life fully for 79 years. He was born on February 4, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to David and Edythmay Lindgren. Tim is survived by his wife Frances Lindgren, his daughter Jennifer (Christiaan) Bovard, son Kyle (Erica) Lindgren, son Ryan (Katherine) Lindgren, and his three beautiful granddaughters, Remy, Bernadette, and Lucy. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara McCulloch and Kristine Michalson; and is preceded in death by his brother Bruce Lindgren.
Tim was a 1969 graduate of Main South High School in Park Ridge, Illinois, and a 1970 graduate of Southern Illinois University, where he received a B.S. in Education. He married his wonderful wife, Frances Delaune, in 1975. From a young age Tim aspired to take care of other people, and hospitality proved to be the perfect career. Well-known in the hospitality industry, Tim spent 37 years with Hyatt Hotels Corporation. Throughout his career with Hyatt Tim held a variety of leadership positions, retiring as Senior Vice President – Operations for North America in 2008. Among his many accolades, Tim was named Hyatt Hotels General Manager of the Year in 1984.
Leadership came naturally to Tim. He was always quick to jump in and help anyone in need, mentor a young associate, and offer advice or expertise. The ultimate connector of people and relationship builder, Tim maintained a network of friendships spanning decades and long distances. He served on the boards of directors and executive committees of numerous organizations, especially in Atlanta, Georgia, where he was Chairman of the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District. He was inducted into the Hospitality Hall of Fame in Atlanta in 2007.
In addition to hospitality, Tim was also passionate about sports and was able to combine his enthusiasm for both by serving as a past board member for the Cotton Bowl Athletic Association, the executive committee of the 2002 Super Bowl, and the executive committee of the 2007 NCAA Men’s Final Four. Notably, Tim was honored to be an Olympic Torch bearer in his hometown of Chicago leading up to the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.
Upon retiring to Savannah, Georgia, Tim and Fran became avid travelers. They embarked on trips around the world together and spent many vacations with their children’s families. Tim was a golfer and enjoyed involvement with the Landings Golf and Athletic Club, where he served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors in 2013. In Savannah, his leadership extended to the board of directors for Bethesda Academy, as well as the board of the Savannah Book Festival.
While Tim leaves behind a remarkable impact on the hospitality industry and in the communities in which he lived and served, his greatest love was reserved for his family. We will think of him always, love him forever, and pass down his memory for generations to come.
