Celebrating the life of
James (Jim) Meyers King
April 19, 1945 - April 08, 2026
James “Jim” Meyers King passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 8, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia. He was born on April 19, 1945, to the late Rosalie Von Glahn Meyers King and Major James King. A lifelong resident and proud native of Savannah, Georgia, Jim lived a life deeply connected to his community and was a true Southern gentleman, known for his social nature, easy conversation, and the genuine way he made people feel welcome as he never met a stranger.
A graduate of Herschel V. Jenkins High School, Class of 1963, Jim went on to attend Armstrong State College, where he was a member of Sigma Kappa Chi Fraternity. He later served in the 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery of the Georgia National Guard and became actively involved in civic and fraternal organizations throughout Savannah. He was a longtime member of the Savannah Jaycees, the Grand Lodge of Georgia, the American Legion, and the Alee Temple Shrine, where he once served as President of the Clown Unit. He was also a member of the Savannah Shag Club.
Jim built a respected career as a custom home builder and was well known throughout the Savannah area, Southeast Georgia, and South Carolina Lowcountry as the owner of King’s Sandwich Company. Outside of work, he enjoyed billiards, watching Georgia football, dancing, working on DIY projects, cooking, collecting recipes, caring for his and his wife’s beloved dog, Deeohgee, making jokes, telling stories and spending time with friends at Driftaway Café and Norwood Tavern.
Jim was a proud and loving father to his daughter, Mara Elizabeth King Harley, and his son, James Robert “Jake” King. He was also a caring and supportive grandfather to his granddaughter, MacKenzie Elizabeth Harley. He is survived by his first wife of over 25 years and mother of their children, Diane Duvall King; his stepsons, Wendell Scott Canady (Angela) and Wesley Steven Canady (Jennifer); his sister, Barbara Seckinger Wall; his step‑grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and their children and their families, all of whom he cared for deeply.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of twenty years, Diane Davis King, who passed on March 31, 2026, and his sister, Joan Seckinger Martin, who passed on August 22, 2025.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 4:00 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 5:00 p.m. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospitals, in honor of his lifelong commitment to the organization and its service.
His presence will be deeply missed, his personality will not be forgotten, and his memory will be long remembered by his family and friends.
