Celebrating the life of
Barbara Carty
Passed away on March 14, 2026
Beloved mother and grandmother, Barbara passed away Saturday March 14th at the age of 85. She is survived by her children Cristin (Bill) Lis, Denise (John) Wujek, John (Katie) Carty and Justin Carty. As well as her nine grandchildren, Sean, Connor, Damon, Fiona, Eliza, Brodie, Brendan, Gavin and Keira. And her sister Kathy Locovare and brother Michael Parks.
Along with raising 4 loving children, Barbara lived a dynamic life. Barbara was married to Max Ehrlich for over 10 years before he passed away several years ago. They shared terrific memories of traveling and spending time with friends and family. Barbara was also very active in the Savannah community. She frequented cultural and social events along with volunteering as a mentor to young people in the community. As well as organizing dinners with friends, where she would make her favorite dish of Paella.
Barbara began her career as a teaching nurse at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Then, in the late 90’s, she received her Doctorate in Medical Informatics. And authored the book, Nursing Informatics: Education for Practice.
Continuing on to be a leader in founding New York Universities’ first Informatics degree program.
She was a lover of skiing and nature and made countless trips to their family house in Vermont. After retiring to Savannah in the early 2000’s, Barbara delighted in visits from her grandchildren. She found incredible joy and pride in watching them grow and always had time for them whether it was to play Wordle, Apples to Apples, or just chat about life. She was a tremendous inspiration to them all.
Barbara’s family invites close friends of Barbara’s to join us in honoring her diverse and marvelous life, April 19th at 12:00 PM for a small reception that will be held at Barbara’s house.
