Cary Alan Shapoff, DDS.
November 01, 1946 - March 22, 2026
Cary Alan Shapoff, DDS., of Fairfield, CT and Savannah, GA passed away on March 22, 2026 at the age of 79. He is survived by his wife, Carol, and by his wonderful daughter Amy and her husband Joe. He was predeceased by his beautiful daughter Stephanie. He is also survived by his twin brother Edward and wife Joanne and their sons Edward and Christopher and wife Stephenie of New York, sister-in-law Marge Stogsdill of Atlanta and Stacey Sutay-Joe Rebecco’s cousin.
He was a graduate of Case Western Reserve University and then attended Case Western Reserve University dental school. He entered The Naval Reserves in his sophomore year. Following that he did a rotating internship at Bethesda Naval Hospital followed by 2 years aboard the USS Coronado as the acting dental/medical officer. His next port of call was the University of Maryland in Baltimore to hone his skills in Periodontics. He then achieved the high honor of becoming a Diplomate of the American Academy of Periodontics and is published in several journals.
A life lived to its fullest and a man larger than life describes Cary Shapoff. He practiced Periodontics in Fairfield CT for 40 years. He was known for calling surgical patients at night to make sure they were okay and would go to the office on weekends to see patients if necessary. He had a passion for his work and travelled worldwide speaking on many topics related to his specialty.
Throughout his career and beyond he gave of himself by serving on many boards and 8 years going to Antigua, Guatemala with Faith in Practice to help the locals with needed dental care.
Closer to home at The Landings Golf and Athletic Club on Skidaway Island, he continued his dedication to serve. He was on committees for The Club, on the Board of Governors for The Landings Association and spent 6 months working in the vaccine clinic on Skidaway Island administering the Covid vaccine. He was a marshal and photographer at the Club Car Championship tournaments. He most recently chaired the Photography Club.
His passions were many. He came from a family of horse trainers-his father and grandfathers, and he continued the love for the animal by owning a few-one of which was in the Kentucky Derby! He loved to cook, play golf, and his favorite was photography. He travelled the world again, capturing castles, landscapes and portraits of people.
Cary was the penultimate storyteller willing to entertain anyone who would listen. He will be greatly missed.
