Celebrating the life of
Robert "Lefty" Moore
August 08, 1931 - February 19, 2026
Robert A. “Lefty” Moore, 94, of Savannah, passed away on February 19, 2026.
Lefty was born on August 8, 1931, in Chicago. He was raised in Winnetka, graduated from New Trier High School, and went on to earn his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. While at Illinois, Lefty played first base for the Fighting Illini baseball team, helping lead them to two Big Ten Championships. He was also a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity.
Following graduation, Lefty served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After completing his military service, he began his career with Owens Corning. His work took his family to several cities before they ultimately settled in Glencoe.
In August 1952, Lefty married his college sweetheart, Joanie Christie. Together they shared 59½ wonderful years of marriage, raising four children and forming lifelong friendships wherever his career led them.
Lefty never met a stranger. He was always ready to step up to the plate — whether coaching a Little League team or doing whatever was needed to support his family. No single word could describe him; he was steady, gregarious, generous, loving, supportive, strong, and blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. Above all, he was proudest of his four children and their accomplishments, always encouraging them to forge their own paths in life.
Lefty lived an incredible 94 years — a gift not many receive. He wished for his passing to be met not with mourning, but with celebration and joy. To honor his life, he would encourage you to seek out what you find beautiful, what inspires you, and what brings you happiness.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanie; his daughter, Ellen Christie Moore; his parents, Gerald and Helen Moore; and his brother, Roy Moore.
Lefty is survived by his wife, Susan Dischner; his children, Robert Moore (Janine), Lora Moore, and Jerry Moore (Lisa); his grandchildren, Robert Moore, Charles Moore (Kathryn), Thomas Moore, and Maggie Moore Siegert (Jake); great-grandchildren, Lily Moore and Ben Siegert; and half-brother, Richard Moore (Laura), half-sister, Deanna Sperduto (Michel).
