Celebrating the life of
Martha "Martie" Campbell Thomas
December 27, 1937 - January 26, 2026
Martha "Martie" Elwell Campbell Thomas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at the age of 88.
She was surrounded by loving friends and family members during a short illness following a stroke on Dec 8th. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Martie was born on December 27, 1937, and was a resident of Weston MA for 65 years. She graduated from The Winsor School and spent 30 years in the residential real estate business while also serving as a long-time volunteer for The Vincent Club, Mass General Hospital, and The Museum of Fine Art. Martie lived a life marked by kindness, grace and quiet strength. She had a generous spirit, beautiful smile, and steady presence that made others feel welcomed and cared for. Whether through her devotion to family, her many friends, or involvement in the community, Martie touched countless lives in meaningful ways.
Martie was known for her warmth, humor, wisdom and faith and she found much joy in gardening, volunteer work, and travel. She was never happier than when tending her flowers on the deck or helping to arrange the floral displays for services at St John's church. For more than 40 years she summered in South Dartmouth MA and made an annual trip to a family cottage on the coast of Maine...two places she truly loved to visit and meet up with family and friends. For the last 20 years she enjoyed living at the Landings on Skidaway Island and continued volunteer work at St John's Episcopal Church and the Green-Meldrim House in Savannah. She and her husband Tom were regular participants/students at The Learning Center Senior Citizen Inc where they enjoyed classes on many subjects of interest. More than anything, she cherished time with family and close friends whether visiting their homes or hosting them in her warm home filled with laughter and her many traditions. One of her favorite activities was writing her memorable cards on birthdays and holidays...she never missed one!
She is survived by her husband Emerson "Tom" Thomas, her children Mike (Chrystal), Lisa (Tom), and Emily. Grandchildren, Sam (Emily) and Henry (Katerina) Archie, Jack and Jane Campbell, and Olivia (Nick) and Colin West; one great grandchild Charlotte "Charlie" Archie; sister Ann Haslett, brother Reginald (Penny) Elwell, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and stepchildren Susan, Sarah, Jim, and Jane. She is pre-deceased by her first husband Marshall Campbell (2002) to whom she was married for 45 years, and grandson Alex Archie (2007).
