Celebrating the life of
Charles (Art) Worden
September 14, 1945 - January 30, 2026
Charles “Art” Worden, born September 14, 1945, in Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026. He left behind a legacy of kindness, service, and deep love for family and friends. He was the son of Charles and Dorothy Worden.
At one year old, Art moved with his family to New York, where he was raised for ten years—something he always joked was the reason he never had a Southern accent. He later returned to Savannah and graduated from Savannah High School in 1963. Art went on to attend the University of Georgia, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1967.
Following college, Art proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was on active duty from 1968 to 1972, and after a twelve-year break from military service, he rejoined the Air Force Reserve. Over the course of a total of 18 years of service, he worked primarily in nursing roles. Art earned his Nursing Degree in 1981 and dedicated his professional life to caring for others as a Psychiatric and Addictions Nurse until his retirement.
After his time on active duty, Art was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Vicki, who was also a nurse. They were married in 1972, and Art became a devoted stepfather to Vicki’s son, Mark. In 1973, they welcomed their daughter, Stacey, completing their family.
In retirement, Art found great joy working with the Tybee Island Historical Society as Assistant Volunteer Coordinator. He loved both the work and the people, remaining there for 11 years before continuing on as a volunteer until he was no longer able. He especially cherished his connection to the Tybee Island Lighthouse—climbing it, working among it, and forming lifelong friendships with his lighthouse family.
Art was deeply committed to his faith and community. A member of All Saints Episcopal Church since 1991, he served in many roles, including Senior Warden, Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan, Lector, and Verger. His faith also led him on numerous medical mission trips to Guatemala through Faith In Practice.
Most people described Art as the kindest man they ever knew. To his family, he was also the smartest—fondly known for saying, when asked how he knew something, “Because I know everything.” He loved his children and grandchildren beyond measure. Known as the “animal whisperer,” Art had a special way with animals. Though he often protested when new dogs or cats were brought home, they inevitably bonded with him.
Art treasured simple pleasures: sitting on the front porch, listening to music, smoking cigars, and visiting with friends. His church family and lighthouse family meant the world to him, and he formed friendships there that lasted a lifetime.
Art is survived by his son Mark Jones and wife Becky, and grandsons Owen and Alex of California; his daughter Stacey Naecker and husband Justin, and grandchildren Jesse, Elly, and Jack of Maryland; and his sister Lorraine of Gainesville. He is also lovingly remembered by extended family, dear friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Art was a pillar of the community and is missed everday. He and Vikki were part of the foundation at All Saints Church. Everyone was touched by their sweet kindness.

We're still having a hard time wrapping our brains around this. We both served on Vestry with Art. He's absolutely a beautiful soul. He helped me (Patti) with a crisis and I'll never forget it. That being said-we know where he is now. He's in the arms of the One who loves him most and also reunited with Vicki. Praying for peace for the family-Art already has it.

Art was a leader and a mentor to me. Most of all he was a friend. Art and Vicki are missed every day. Art gave so much to All Saints and the Tybee lighthouse. He was loved and will be missed.

I hold you all close in my heart and prayers. Vickie and Art were so very dear to Bob and Eddie. We gifted Eddie's prayer book to Art because he meant such so much to her in her journey in prayer.

Art & Vicki are two wonderful souls who I was lucky enough to meet through my Best and amazing friend Elly Naecker. The whole Naecker family took me in as one of their own, as did Grandma Vicki, who knit and sent me gloves during my time at my college, and Grandpa Art, who always invited me up to Tybee. Mama Stace, their daughter, is a wonderful representation of who they are, and she is generous like they are, and it is so beautiful their legacy will live on through her kindness. May Art and Vicki rest in peace
