Phyllis J Scarborough of Savannah GA, 90 went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 1,2026 at Azalealand Nursing facility under the care of Hospice of Savannah and the many devoted CNA’s of Azalealand. Born in Villa Rica, GA on December 26, 1935 she was the 3rd oldest of 9 children of the late Clifton and Inez Phillips.

In 1948 she married Marion Kent Scarborough Sr on a hot August day. Marion was in the US Air Force and the two lived quite the military life traveling and living in various places. Phyllis and Marion had a lot of adventures traveling all over the world in their 51 years of marriage before Marion passed in 2009. 

Phyllis was a teacher and retired in 1989 after 31 years of service. She touched the lives of so many in her classroom.

Phyllis was a long time member of Bible Baptist Church where she served Jesus in so many areas. She worked in the church bus ministry with Marion for many years planting the seed of Christ in many young lives. Also as a girls Sunday school teacher. She sang in the church choir. In her later years she served in the churches Crisis Pregnancy Center, where she extended her love and compassion to others. Phyllis was a godly woman who modeled the characteristics of strength, compassion and unconditional love. She loved and adored her children and grandchildren. She always said they were her treasures in this life.

Phyllis was predeceased by her loving husband Marion Kent Scarborough Sr, as well as her parents, brothers, Jerry, Michael and Donnie Phillips, sisters, Nell Waller and Ann Hodgens and son in law Timmy Atkins. 

Surviving is her son Marion Kent Scarborough Jr (Susan) of Charleston, SC and daughter Beth Atkins of Savannah, GA. Grand children Adam Scarborough (Cait) of Alexandria, VA, Alex Scarborough (Ashlie) of Birmingham, AL, Brandon Scarborough of California, Cody Atkins of Savannah, GA and Katie Russell (Hunter) of Savannah, GA. Great grand children Rowan and Baker Scarborough. Brother Van Phillips (Terri) of Bremen, GA, sisters Teressa Hitchcock (Michael) of Griffin, GA and Jan Christian (Greg) of Spanish Fort, AL and numerous nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends at 9:30am with the funeral service following at 10 am on Tuesday, February 10,2026 at Fox and Weeks Island Chapel Hwy 80, Whitemarsh Island. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
