John Lewis Crow, Jr., age 90, of Rincon, passed peacefully on Sunday, January 25, 2026, after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. John was born at home on March 24, 1935, to John Lewis Crow, Sr. and Beatrice Parker Crow in Americus, GA. He graduated from Americus High School in 1953. He then went off to college, first attending Georgia Tech, where he was in the Georgia Tech Marching Band (trumpet). One Friday, he decided to drive down to Cordele for the weekend. This is when his and his wife's fate was sealed. They went out on a date that fateful Friday night, and well, the rest is history. John married his beloved wife, Frances, on June 19, 1955. Afterwards they moved to Savannah where John's career began at Hercules. He then attended Armstrong State College, at night, where he received his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry in 1969, all while raising four kids. John never met a stranger, and always wanted to tell his story. 

John worked for so many companies throughout his esteemed career of which he has multiple patents. He worked for Hercules, Flintkote, American Cyanamid that later became Cytec, and retired from BASF in Albany, New York. After retirement, in Cordele, GA, John wanted to keep busy, so he also served as a substitute science teacher for the Crisp County School System.

Outside of work, John impacted so many lives, especially the youth. He loved to officiate baseball, softball, and football games, and everyone knew who John Crow was when he pulled up in that big yellow Plymouth station wagon to call their game.  He was so proud to be the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop #1 right here in Savannah, Ga, and saw many of his scouts achieve Eagle status. He coached his own children (Johnny, Tony, and Angela) in baseball, football, softball and tennis (PS, his son's never could beat him on the tennis court and he was using his youngest daughter's, Dottie, Western Auto $4.98 wooden Wilson tennis racquet to beat them). He loved taking his youngest son, Bobby, to all his swim meets, and loved hauling his daughter, Dottie, and all of the coxswains to crew meets. In his spare time he enjoyed to play tennis, play golf (with his favorite caddie, his son, Tony), fish, playing cards to all hours of the night at the house on Largo Drive, backgammon, bridge, crossword puzzles, solitaire, dominos, and loved to help all people. He especially loved spending time with family and friends. He attended St. Michaels Episcopal Church, where he was a senior warden, and was a member of St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Rincon. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Brice L. and Annie Crow; and maternal grandparents Gordon C. and Kitty M. Wise Parker.

His surviving family includes his loving and devoted wife of seventy years, Frances Hughes Crow (and their sweet rescue Lilly); his children, John "Johnny" Lewis Crow, III and his wife Patricia, Anthony "Tony" Hughes Crow and his wife Caroline, Angela Crow Bucy and her husband Rickie,  Dorothy "Dottie" Elaine Wheeler and her husband Thaddeus, Robert "Bobby" Crow and his wife Katie; his grandchildren, Olivia, Meredith, Miranda, Thaddeus III, Joshua, Jesse and Reid; his great-grandchildren, Emma Grace, Madelyn, Wyatt, and his newest great-grandchild, Presley; many nieces and nephews; and several loved ones and friends.

Family visitation will begin on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 3:00 pm at Bethel Lutheran Church in Springfield, GA at 1984 Hwy 21 N. with John's Celebration of Life to follow at 4:00 pm.
