Celebrating the life of

Barbara Sharp

June 29, 1946 - January 17, 2026

Barbara Sharp

Barbara Sharp (Brissman), 79, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia. She was born on June 29, 1946, in Amarillo, Texas, to the late Theodore Daniel Brissman and Annie Mae Rooney Brissman.

Barbara graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. It was there that she met her first husband, Arthur Paul Burton, Jr. Together they made their home in Stone Harbor and Avalon, New Jersey, where their son Paul III was born and began raising their family. Following Paul’s passing, Barbara and her son Paul eventually relocated to San Antonio, Texas. There, she married John Sharp and began a fulfilling career in education, touching the lives of countless students with her kindness and dedication.

After retiring, Barbara lived for a time in Georgetown, Texas, before settling in Savannah, GA where she spent her later years. She will be remembered as kind, gentle, and delightfully quick-witted—always a joy to be around. Her sense of humor and zest for life never faded; even an hour before her passing, she smiled and said to the ICU nurse at Candler Hospital, “Let’s just go upstairs and have a margarita!”

Barbara is survived by her beloved son, Paul Burton, her sister and best friend Jayne Hoover; Nephew, Zachary Hoover and his wife Lesie and their children Charlie and Hadley, and countless loving cousins. She was deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the team at Thrive on Skidaway, whom she wished to thank.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Skidaway Island Methodist Church, Savannah, Georgia.

Memorial contributions may be made to Skidaway Island Methodist Church, 54 Diamond Causeway, Savannah, GA 31411, or to a charity of one’s choosing.
