Karen Arlene Newton Culp

Mrs. Karen Arlene Newton Culp, affectionately known as Miss Kay, age 74, of Savannah, died on Monday, January 12, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Miss Kay was born on June 10, 1951, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Newton, Sr. and spent her formative years in Aiken, South Carolina. She was a 1969 graduate of Aiken High School and had a home daycare at Talahi Island for sixteen years. She worked as a bookkeeper with many local businesses including Bull River Chu's on Hwy 80 before retiring. Kay was a member of Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Parrish on Wilmington Island. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, going to the beach, reading and was a great cook. She especially loved spending time with her family and was a loving and caring sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She is preceded in death by her parents. 

Her family includes her loving husband of fifty-two years, John E. Culp, Sr.; her children, Amy Culp Jessee and her husband Richard, Jodi Culp Zipperer, Mary Kathleen Hashemi and her husband Doran, and John E. Culp Jr.; her sister, Margaret Nunnally; her brother, Robert L. Newton, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, January 14th from 6:00 until 8:00 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors Islands Chapel, 4605 US Hwy 80 East, Savannah, GA 31410. The funeral mass will be held on Thursday morning, January 15th at 11:00 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Parrish 7020 Concord Road, Savannah, GA 31410. Burial will be at Culp Family Cemetery, 814 Grimshaw Road Statesboro, GA 30461 on Thursday afternoon, January 15th at 3:00. 

Pallbearers will be Chris Culp, Collin Culp, Brian Hashemi, Doran Hashemi, Richard Jessee, and Barney "Bubba" Rollins, Jr.
