Celebrating the life of

Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Gilmore Creech

August 14, 1930 - January 10, 2026

Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Gilmore Creech

Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Gilmore Creech peacefully passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 95.

Betty was born on August 14, 1930, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Anna and Tom Gilmore. She was the third of their four daughters and was known during her formative years by family and friends as “Tootsie.” One of the original four “Gilmore Girls,” she and her sisters were raised in the “Old Fort” section of downtown Savannah.

She attended St. Vincent’s Kindergarten, Cathedral Day School, and Savannah High School. On January 23, 1963, she married Robert S. Creech, Jr. (“Bobby”). Together, they built a wonderful life centered on faith, family, and devotion to their son.

In her youth, Betty was a communicant of The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist, where she sang in the youth choir. In her later years, she was a devoted member of St. James Catholic Church. She was immensely proud of her Irish Catholic heritage.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, godmother, sister, aunt, neighbor, and cherished family member, Betty dedicated her adult life to raising her son and later took great joy in being actively involved in the lives of her two grandchildren. She was deeply engaged in her son’s schools and was a familiar and enthusiastic presence at Blessed Sacrament’s annual Grandparents’ Day program, often arriving an hour early to secure the best seat.

Known affectionately her grandchildren as “MiMi,” and “The Rock”, she was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Bobby; her parents; and her three sisters, Margaret Mary, Nancy Avrea, and Barbara Ann.

She is survived by her son, LtCol (Ret.) Robert S. “Robbie” Creech III; her grandchildren, Robert S. “Sanders” Creech IV (Laurie) and Alle Sheridan Creech (Miles); and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members, all of whom she adored.

The family extends its deepest gratitude to her primary caregivers, Pace Creech, Kiyoro Addison, and Nurse Anneser, as well as the compassionate teams at Bridge Hospice, Azalealand Nursing Home, and Encompass Health. Their care, kindness, and grace will forever be remembered as the embodiment of the Beatitude: “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

A memorial service will be held closer to St. Patrick’s Day, with details to be announced at a later date.
