March 6, 1934 ~ December 21, 2025
Kenneth J. Skoglind, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran and respected leader in the aviation industry, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. His life was defined by faith, service, integrity, and an unwavering dedication to those he cherished.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Kenneth was the son of Oscar G. Skoglind and Cecelia Edith Heyer Skoglind. He grew up in a warm hardworking family, attending St Bartholomew Catholic School in Elmhurst, NY, where the foundations of his faith and character were formed. He later enrolled in Brooklyn Technical High School, where he participated in the ROTC program, beginning a lifelong relationship with aviation military service. His pursuit of excellence continued at New York University, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering, followed by a Master of Business Administration from Hofstra University— achievements that reflected both his intellect and his remarkable drive.
Kenneth proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, rising to the rank of Captain and serving in Korea. His military service shaped his strong sense of discipline, Responsibility, and patriotism-qualities that would guide his life's work and personal values.
After completing his service, Kenneth began what would become a distinguished career in aviation and aerospace. He joined Northrop Grumman in Bethpage, NY where he contributed to programs and innovations that advanced the industry during a transformative era. Later, he moved his family from Smithtown, NY to Savannah, GA embarking on the next chapter of his career with Gulfstream Aerospace. He excelled in Gulfstream Sales, representing the G-1 through G-4 aircraft, and built lifelong relationships through his leadership, expertise, and genuine respect for colleagues and customers alike.
Following his retirement from Gulfstream, Kenneth brought his knowledge and passion to the Boeing Business Jets, where he continued to thrive and make a lasting impact.
Kenneth was deeply rooted in his Catholic faith. He was a communicant of nativity of our Lord/St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church as well as the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Savannah. His faith was lived daily in his generosity, kindness, humility and devotion to family.
In one of life's greatest blessings, Kenneth married the love of his life, Gertrude S. Frechette, after a brief but meaningful courtship. They married 67 years ago at Sacred Heart Church in Wauregan, CT. A testament to enduring love, respect, and shared adventure. Together they raised four children, building a life filled with faith, warmth, laughter and treasured memories. Kenneth embraced every role he held-Kenneth, Kenny, Uncle Ken, Mr. Ken, Ken, Daddy and PopPop-with joy and commitment.
With a lifelong love of flying, he earned his private pilot's license and delighted in taking his children and family members up for flight, sharing the thrill and beauty of the skies.
Kenneth and Gertrude shared a passion for travel and golf, playing courses throughout the United States, and St. Andrews Scotland. Many of their happiest days were spent attending the Heritage Golf Tournament and the Masters, celebrating their shared love of the sport and time together.
Kenneth was a man of quiet talent and boundless generosity. He was always ready with thoughtful advice, a clever joke, or a comforting word. His hands were rarely still—he built, repaired, created and contributed whenever he was needed. He lived his life with humility, helping friends and family without exception and embracing every adventure, big or small, with enthusiasm.
He is preceded by his parents; his brother, Alan C. Skoglind, and brother-in-law, Edgar Frechette.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Gertrude S. Frechette; his children, Gail McCarthy (Pat), Lisa, Gary, and Brian (Heather); and his grandchildren, Patrick Jr. (Emily), Colleen (Corey), Kevin (Meghan), Brian Jr. (Abby), Grant (Sierra), Olivia, and Amelia (Brad).
He also leaves behind cherished great-grandchildren: Rhett, Lilian, Julia, Graham, Carter and Callie, each one a source of great pride and joy to him.
Kenneth is also survived by his godson and nephew Chris Skoglind (Lydia): his sister-in-law Annabelle Skoglind and several nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.
The family extends a heartfelt and special thank-you to the wonderful caregivers from Coastal Care Partners and Hospice Savannah, whose compassion, skill, and kindness provided great comfort and support.
Kenneth's legacy is one of love, faith, wisdom and strength His spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those he touched.
