Celebrating the life of

Rose Kunavich

Passed away on December 09, 2025

Rose Kunavich

Rose Kunavich, 76, of Tybee Island of 30 years, passed away peacefully after a short illness on December 9, 2025.

Ever present at events and gatherings on the island, Rose was an excellent chef who loved bringing joy and cheer to those around her. She was a master storyteller with the gift of making the most mundane events appear as though they were historical events. Rose always had a soft heart for the disadvantaged, often participating in events that brought funds to those who would truly benefit. Her favorite donation of time was to the Tybee Island American Legion, Post 154, where she was a volunteer, friend and confidant to all those who knew her. Prior to life in Tybee, Rose was born in Belvidere, Illinois and subsequently resided in Harvard, Illinois where she raised her family and served as an alderperson in city government. She also lived In Taiwan for ten years.

The daughter of Leonard and Kathryn Fitch, Rose was preceded in death by her parents as well as the love of her life, Cpl. Wm. “Bill” Cummins (Army) in 2020. She is survived by her son Ed Burton (Amy), 2 grandchildren Lynnea Burton Jessen and Edward Burton,  2 great grandchildren, Tyler Sweeney and Kenzie Jessen, her sister Shelly (Esmond Dean) Ah Leong, brother John (Katie) Fitch and their children.

A celebration of life will be scheduled for this spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor to the American Legion would be most appreciated.  Tybee Island American Legion Post 154, P.O. Box 1225, Tybee Island, GA 31328.
