Celebrating the life of
Timothy Cooper Mooney
September 24, 1937 - December 03, 2025
Timothy Cooper Mooney, 88, passed away on December 3, 2025 in Savannah, Georgia, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Known for his dry wit, meticulous mind, kind heart, and twinkle in his eye, Tim truly made the world a better place. Our only comfort in his loss is knowing that he is reunited in heaven with the love of his life, his wife Annie Mae, and the golden retrievers he reluctantly tolerated but secretly loved.
Tim was born on September 24, 1937, in Washington DC, to the late Timothy Caldwell Mooney and Esther Cooper Mooney. He grew up in Washington, attending The Western High School. He graduated from Duke University in 1959 with a major in accounting, where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He married his college sweetheart, Anne Carolyn Morris, on June 11, 1960, in Clearwater, Florida. They were married for 57 years, until her passing in 2017. After Anne was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2004, Tim cared for her at home until her advanced disease necessitated a move to Spanish Oaks residential care facility in Savannah, where he faithfully visited her every day without fail for six years.
Tim began work with the international accounting firm of Price Waterhouse in 1959 and enjoyed a long career with the company until his retirement in 1993. During his 34-year career with PW, he was transferred around the country, including assignments in Atlanta, Miami, Chicago, Detroit, Charlotte and Philadelphia. He became a partner in 1972 and specialized in the tax department, serving many notable clients. Tim was a CPA and a member of the AICPA and state accounting societies in the states where he was licensed and practiced.
Wherever he lived, Tim was active in family, community, club and church activities, and served on several boards, usually in a financial management role. He was a member of Oakland Hills Country
Club (Michigan), Carmel Country Club (North Carolina), The Philadelphia Country Club, the Union
League of Philadelphia and The Landings Club in Savannah. He and his wife were members
of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church when they lived in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and were active members of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church and the Alpha and Journey Sunday
School classes in downtown Savannah. Tim and Anne retired to The Landings on Skidaway Island in 1993 and moved to the Marshes on Skidaway Island in 2011. He volunteered at Candler Hospital, the Hess School Bear Buddy program, and Meals on Wheels. Tim’s hobbies and interests included
tennis, genealogy, travel, bridge (achieving the status of Life Master), and Dunkin’ Donuts. When his kids were young, the family enjoyed adventures including trips to dude ranches, houseboating down the Mississippi and Kentucky rivers, and water skiing on Lake of the Ozarks. After retirement, Tim and Anne made lifetime memories traveling to all corners of the globe, enjoying African safaris, waltzing during Ball season in Vienna, tasting wine throughout France, exploring the Greek isles, and assisting medical and dental missions in Honduras.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. He is survived by his children, Christopher Mooney of Richmond Hill, Georgia, and Tracy Mooney Schaeffer (David) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and his grandson, Samuel B. Schaeffer, currently a student-athlete at Haverford College.
There will be a private family memorial service and internment at Bonaventure Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in Savannah, or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. The family wishes to extend their profound thanks to the staff at the Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility at the Marshes on Skidaway Island for their exceptional care during Tim’s final years, to Katie Boyuk, RN, at Gentiva Hospice for providing compassionate comfort and guidance during Tim’s final months, and to Reverand Dr. Ben Martin at Wesley Monumental Methodist Church for his faithful presence and spiritual support.
Tim Mooney was a smart, kind and overall wonderful man. Tim was best friend of our father, Dave Dawson. These two friends supported each other thru good times and bad, over 40 years. Chris and Tracy, we are so sorry for your loss. You have been blessed to have two extraordinary parents. Much love, Gail, Kathy, Steve and Ginny Dawson

Although I came to know Tim only during his final years, I will forever remember him for quick wit and knowing smirk. He will be deeply missed and always remember.

Tim was one of the finest persons I ever knew. A real class guy. For a few years, after our wives died at about the same time, Tim and I, and sometimes David Page, would meet for a long lunch in St. Simons or Savannah. I miss those - and him.
