Celebrating the life of

Sandra Elizabeth Bath

February 16, 1947 - November 27, 2025

Sandra Elizabeth Bath

Sandra Elizabeth Bath, 78, of Savannah, passed away quietly on Thursday, November 27, 2025. Born in 1947 at Fort Benning Georgia, Sandra lived a life marked by courage, faith, and strength. She was the eldest daughter of the late Kelly C. and Pearl Bath. After surviving polio at age five, Sandra faced life’s challenges with remarkable resilience and courage proving that having a disability does not impact the God given abilities we are all given.

Sandra grew up in a military family and embraced travel and novel experiences. A graduate of LaGrange College, she taught high school English and drama for 30 years, sharing her love of learning with generations of students. After retiring, she became a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster care, mentored at L.I.F.E., Inc to help special needs students transition from school, delivered Meals on Wheels, and participated in many other community projects.

Sandra was a long-time member of Bull Street Baptist Church, taught Sunday School and enjoyed mission trips to Haiti and Israel. Sandra devoted her life to challenging the limits of her disability, pursuing her goals with independence and grace.

Sandra is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Cheryl. She is survived by her sister, Diane (Michael); her nieces, Elizabeth (Daniel) and Denise (John); her nephews, Michael (Stacy) and Stephen; her great-nephews, Carter, Mason, and Ellis; and her dearest friend, Dorinda.

Sandra’s memorial service will be at Fox and Weeks Hodgson Chapel at 6 pm on Friday December 5, 2025. In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances be made to Free Wheelchair Mission (https://www.freewheelchairmission.org). Even in death, Sandra is at work fighting for people with disabilities all over the world.

My brother and I got the wonderful opportunity to be the pack mules, chefs, and drivers for Sandra, Dorinda, and our mother to Italy back in 2005. What a grand adventure we had - full of breathtaking scenes, fabulous food & wine, and laughter - so much laughter. Sandra was a great friend to my mother, Marty, and she will be missed so very much. I'm grateful to have known such a strong, determined, kind woman who enjoyed life and felt no limits.

I am so sad that I will not make it back in town to be able to attend on Friday. Ms. Bath was a huge part of my high school success. I went through some major health issues and some pretty terrible family issues and she was there for me. She was a teacher, mentor and especially a friend to me. When she went through some family loss, I did my best to be there for her. Sandra touched the lives of so many and made a difference in so many more. Families, children and individuals lives were made better because of her. I send my love and prayers to Denise and the other family members who are trying to get through this time. Sandra will be missed, but she is in a better place and able to do all of the things she wanted to do in this life. There is no doubt I will see Sandra again as I know she was able to hear the words "Well done my good and faithful servant!" Rest in Peace, my friend. Oh, and I made the grammar far from perfect so she could enjoy shaking her head as she reads. :-)

Sandra and I first met in 1997 at the first meeting of CEPSA, Coastal Empire Polio Survivors Association. I had never met anyone with polio affecting their arms like me. We became fast friends and enjoyed many trips together, travelling to North GA and Italy and places in between. Her favorite song was Bye Bye Love, and her favorite book was To Kill a Mockingbird. She loved her pets and doted on them. She was witty and had amazing energy, and appreciated a good fried pork chop. For the past 28 years we've worked together to bring support to survivors of polio, and to build awareness for accessibility, vaccinations, and information. Sandra was very generous with her leadership skills, serving three terms as President of CEPSA, publishing the newsletter, preparing materials for exhibitions, and attending Post-Polio Health International conferences. Each CEPSA member was asked to share their polio stories, which fill a volume of our history. We found family in this support group - a place where we could be open and real - assured of finding understanding and love. www.coastalempirepoliosurvivors.org

Ms. Sandra was an inspiration to all of us, especially our students living with different abilities. She was living proof that anything is possible. May her memory be a blessing to her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege to know her light.
