Leon E. Proper

Leon E. Proper, 96, of Savannah, GA, passed away on November 18, 2025.  Leon was born to Jack and Marie Horton Proper on August 15, 1929. 

Leon was preceded in death by the love of his life, Marian S. Proper, his parents and his brother, Jack B. Proper. He is survived by his three wonderful children, Leon, Jr. (Marian), Ellen Proper Brown (David) and Stephen (Lisa); his grandchildren, Lee Proper, Jeffery Standish (Ashlie), Leacy Shaffer (Craig), Mitchell Brown, Amber Williams, Daniel Williams (Fabian), Stephen Proper, and Gabrielle Proper and his six great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. He was a wonderful husband and father.

Leon graduated from Savannah High School where he played trombone in the band.  He began his college studies at Armstrong College and earned his Business degree from Georgia State College.  After several years in private accounting, he became a Certified Public Accountant and established a successful CPA practice in Savannah.  He also taught accounting courses at Armstrong and was a long-time member and officer of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants.

He was a founding communicant of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.  He and Marian traveled extensively including visits to all 50 states, all the Canadian provinces, many European countries and the Holy Land while also taking over 30 cruises.  For many years, he could be found each afternoon swimming laps at the Armstrong pool and, later, at the Chatham County Aquatic Center. He was a long-time member of the Savannah Quarterback Club.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, on Sunday, November 23, 2025, with a Rosary service beginning at 5:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 24, 2025 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
