Celebrating the life of
Gail Marie Gilpin Toffey
January 01, 1948 - October 12, 2025

Gail Marie Gilpin Toffey, 78, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025, in Savannah, Georgia.
Born on January 1, 1948, in Montgomery, Alabama, Gail lived a life defined by compassion, creativity, and quiet strength. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Armstrong State College and later a Master’s in Liberal Arts from Winthrop University. Early in her career, she worked as a social worker, where her empathy and dedication helped countless individuals and families. Later, she found joy in education, serving as an academic advisor at Indian River, Community College where she inspired students to see their own potential.
Gail’s journey took her to Savannah, Minnesota, and New Jersey before she and her husband, Bill Toffey, settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, to raise their family. They later made a home in Tega Cay, South Carolina, for more than twenty years, and eventually enjoyed the sunshine of Vero Beach, Florida, before returning to Savannah, where her story came full circle.
Gail was an avid sportswoman, playing a mean second base on her softball team in Savannah. Later coaching her sons in T-ball. She evolved to tennis and played on her 4.0 teams in Tega Cay and Charlotte.
A wonderful mother but never held back caring for anyone. Known for her kind heart and open spirit, Gail never met a stranger. She had a remarkable gift for making people feel seen and cared for, always willing to lend a hand or share a thoughtful word. At the same time, she carried a strong will and independent mind, never afraid to express her opinions with honesty and love.
A lifelong creative, Gail found joy in writing poetry and crafting beautiful beaded jewelry, each piece a reflection of her patience and artistry. Yet, her greatest legacy was the love she poured into her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill, her sons Matt and Dan, her cherished grandchildren Owen and Isabel, her brother Mike Gilpin, and her sister Dolores Phillips. She will be remembered most for her radiant smile, which she shared freely — even in difficult moments — reminding everyone around her of the quiet power of hope and grace.
A memorial service will be held at a later date to celebrate Gail’s life and the joy she brought to so many.
