Celebrating the life of

Marla Ann Khetem

April 10, 1973 - September 19, 2025

Marla Ann Khetem

Marla Ann Khetem, 52, passed away peacefully at home on September 19, 2025.

Born in Durand, Illinois, Marla spent more than 30 years in Minneola, Florida before moving to Savannah, Georgia in 2022 and most recently to Hardeeville, South Carolina in 2025.

Marla was an Occupational Therapist who truly loved her work and the people she served. Recognized as one of the top five therapists in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina, she went above and beyond for her patients—whether that meant picking up groceries, volunteering with her husband Moose to help with a house project, or simply offering a listening ear. Her dedication reflected the same joy, care, and kindness that she brought to her everyday life.

A devoted Catholic, Marla lived by her faith and believed deeply in spreading love and compassion wherever she went. She loved traveling, cheering on the Chicago Cubs and Bears (and, by marriage, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), shopping, and spending time with her friends and family. Marla never met a stranger—her warmth and genuine connection made everyone feel welcome and valued.

Marla was also a passionate advocate for the ALS Association following her uncle Doug’s diagnosis in 2011. She worked tirelessly to support those affected by ALS, raising awareness and offering help wherever she could. A charity is currently being established in her honor to continue the work she believed in so deeply.

Marla is survived by her loving husband, Mustapha “Moose” Khetem; her daughter, Mariah Rose Kiel and her son-in-law, Brayden Kiel. She is also survived by her mother, Carol Patterson, her sisters, Dana Patterson and Kay Buchanan, her brother-in-law, Eric Buchanan, her niece, Kendyl Buchanan, and her nephews, Brock and Trey Buchanan. She was predeceased by her father, Pokey Patterson.

Marla will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her selflessness, and the light she brought to everyone she encountered. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and advocacy will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.
