Celebrating the life of

Alan Dunn

June 26, 1947 - September 07, 2025

Alan Dunn

Robert Alan Dunn, 78, died peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Alan was born in Clayton, GA on June 26, 1947. He was the only son of Robert Earl Dunn and Mary Etta Mills Dunn.

Alan graduated from Ewing Highs School and attended Trenton State College and Pfeiffer College. He spent 46 years working in the automobile industry. He worked for U.S. Auto Group in Shrewsbury, NJ. For the past 28 years he worked for Grainger Honda in Savannah.

In 1972, Alan married Donna Wood. Alan leaves behind two daughters, Courtney Odermatt (Ken) and Kendra Shanahan (Daniel) and his grandchildren Millie and Finn Odermatt and Colin and Carson Shanahan. He is survived by his Aunt Jonelda Mills Pitman and many cousins in Tennessee and North Carolina. He was preceded by his beloved cousin Patricia Cagle Michael.

Alan was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes - a steadfast presence whose integrity and kindness touched everyone fortunate enough to cross his path.

His story began in the simplicity of youth when, as a young teenager, he met the love of his life, Donna Wood, at a church camp. Undeterred by the miles between them and armed only with determination, he journeyed to her town, rifled through a local phone book, and called every listing with her last name until he heard her voice on the line. That fateful connection blossomed into a marriage that endured for over five decades, a testament to the enduring power of true devotion. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and stability.

From that union came two remarkable daughters, Courtney and Kendra, both of whom graduated from college, found loving partners, and went on to raise families of their own. Alan's pride in them was evident in every quiet smile, every supportive nod. He cherished his family and doted on his grandchildren, Colin, Millie, Finn, and Carson. They were a joy to him, and he shared with them and his family the pursuits that brought him peace - lazy days on the sun-kissed beaches of New Jersey and Savannah, and watching them play sports – soccer, basketball, baseball, and golf under his gentle guidance, as he had done for his daughters before. Those moments will always be remembered.

Alan’s steady guidance and influence extended far beyond his family. For over thirty years, Alan dedicated himself to a journey of personal renewal, emerging as a pillar of strength for others navigating their own trials. He became a father figure to many, mentoring young employees, guiding friends through life's storms, and offering a steady hand to those in need. His quiet wisdom and noble resolve inspired countless lives, showing that true leadership comes from humility and perseverance.

Alan Dunn leaves behind a legacy not of grand gestures, but of consistent, quiet heroism. He taught us that love persists through effort, that family is our anchor, and that helping others heal is the noblest calling. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit endures in the lives he shaped, the family he cherished, and the quiet nobility he embodied every day.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The burial of the ashes will immediatley take place following the service in the church garden.
