Celebrating the life of
Jack Ross Brigdon II
October 30, 1971 - July 24, 2025
Captain Brigdon’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched—both in uniform and beyond. He was a hero, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. He will be remembered always with love, pride, and gratitude.

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Captain Jack “Ross” Brigdon—a devoted father, cherished son, loyal friend, and proud firefighter who served the fire service with honor and distinction for 32 years. Ross passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 53, after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of bravery, compassion, and unwavering service.
Born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, on October 30, 1971, Ross proudly continued a family tradition of firefighting, following in the footsteps of his father, Captain Jack Ross Brigdon, who served as a Fire-Police Officer and Training Captain with the Savannah Fire Department in the 1970s.
Ross’s fire service journey began in 1992 as a volunteer firefighter and first responder with the Thunderbolt Volunteer Fire Department. In 1996, he joined the Savannah Fire Department, officially beginning a distinguished career that spanned from January 29, 1996, until his retirement on July 1, 2024.
Throughout his 32-year career, Ross rose steadily through the ranks—from Firefighter to Master Firefighter Levels 1, 2, and 3, and ultimately to Fire Captain in 2004. He played a pivotal role in helping the Savannah Fire Department achieve its ISO Class 1 Classification and earn Accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).
He earned numerous professional certifications, including National Professional Qualifications in Firefighter I & II, Fire Officer I & II, Instructor I, HazMat Technician, and Public Fire Safety Educator. Widely respected throughout the firefighting community, Ross mentored countless firefighters—many of whom credit him with shaping their careers.
His excellence was recognized early in his career: he was named the 1995 State of Georgia Rookie Firefighter of the Year and Savannah Fire Rookie Firefighter of the Year in 1998. Ross was also committed to lifelong learning, pursuing coursework toward a Fire Science degree at West Georgia Technical College (2010) and Savannah Technical College (1998), building on his education at Johnson High School.
In addition to his firefighting service, Ross worked with ILA 1475 Longshoremen since 2000, further dedicating himself to supporting his fellow workers.
Ross was, above all, a devoted family man. He was the proud father of three beloved sons—Jack, Alex, and Ashton—who were the light of his life. He cherished every moment with his boys and instilled in them the strength, integrity, and values that guided his own life.
He is also survived by his loving mother, Marsha Brigdon; his brother, Jason Brigdon; and his sister-in-law, Julie. He was a devoted uncle to Gavin, Olivia, and Colin, and shared a special bond with his aunt, Nan Parrish. Ross also had a meaningful relationship with Lauren Bicknell, whose companionship brought him joy and comfort.
Known not only for his courage on the job, Ross was admired for his warmth, humor, and generosity off-duty. He was a passionate Georgia Bulldogs fan and loved playing and watching golf. He found joy in cooking, telling stories, spending time with family, and savoring the simple moments that made life meaningful. Whether cheering on his sons, helping a neighbor, or supporting a friend, Ross lived with humility, strength, and kindness.
He was predeceased by his father, Captain Jack Ross Brigdon, and his uncle, Del Parrish.
The Brigdon family extends their deepest gratitude to the Savannah Fire Department for their unwavering support, dedication, and brotherhood, and to the many friends, neighbors, and community members who have offered their love and support during this difficult time.
A viewing to honor Captain Jack “Ross” Brigdon will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Honor Mark or The 200 Club—two causes that reflect Ross’s lifelong commitment to firefighter wellness, brotherhood, and service.
Captain Brigdon’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched—both in uniform and beyond. He was a hero, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. He will be remembered always with love, pride, and gratitude.

I had the great privilege to get to know Ross when I was teaching classes at Pooler Fire. He was a great guy, funny as heck, and was great at his job. I think I learned as much from him as he did from me. I also know he loved his family and spoke of his boys all the time. The fire service is better for his being with us and he will be greatly missed.
