Celebrating the life of

John Mark Schroder

John “Mark” Schroder
May 19, 1952 – July 15, 2025

John Mark Schroder, lovingly known as Mark, passed away peacefully at his home on July 15, 2025, after a long and courageous health journey. He was surrounded by his devoted family and faithful pets.

Born in Savannah on May 19, 1952, Mark graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1970 and went on to build a life rooted in faith, family, and community. He began his career as a car salesman before becoming the proud owner of Bowyer Motors. Mark was a man of deep Catholic faith and unwavering values. He lived many happy years on Tybee Island — his favorite place in the world — where he was an active member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, serving as Finance Manager and deeply involved in parish life. He was also a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, the Quarterback Club, and the St.
Patrick’s Day Parade Committee — a celebration that coincided with his wedding anniversary and brought him endless joy. One of his most precious accomplishments was being awarded the Gartland Award in 2021 for his dedication and service to the Catholic Church. He loved Georgia Bulldogs football, golf, piña coladas, good company, and most of all, his family. He also had a deep love for travel — especially to places rich in Catholic history. His most treasured journey was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land,
where he walked in the very footsteps of Jesus Christ, a life-changing experience that deepened his already profound faith.
His life was guided by God first, and everything else followed from that unshakable devotion.

Mark is survived by his loving wife, Ginger Schroder, and his children: Kevin Michael Schroder (Ashley Schroder), Allison Schroder Maselli (Anthony Maselli), Brock Lightbourne, and Natalie Schroder. He was a proud grandfather to Charlotte Maselli, Audrey Maselli, Olivia Schroder, and Greyson Schroder. He also leaves behind his beloved pets: cats Tom, Jerry, and Porter, and his dog
Henry— all of whom were always close by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dolly Schroder, and his sister, Susan Schroder Robertson.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are George Schwartz, Michael Bolton, Michael Foran, Felix Maher, Kenny Walrevan, and Vince Flaherty.

A wake will be held on Sunday, July 20, from 4:00 to 6:00, with rosary at 5:30 PM at Fox & Weeks Funeral Home (4605 Highway 80 East, Savannah, GA 31410).

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, July 21, at 10:00 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church on Tybee Island.

Following the Mass and burial, a luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus for all who are able to attend. All who loved Mark are warmly invited to gather, remember, and honor a life lived with devotion, humor, and purpose.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Mark’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Benedictine Military School (6502 Seawright Dr, Savannah, GA 31406).
