Mary Elizabeth (Morton) Futral

Mary Elizabeth (Morton) Futral, (89) of Savannah, GA died June 26, 2025 in Midway, GA. She most recently resided at Magnolia Manor of Richmond Hill, GA, where she leaves many friends and loving caregivers. She was born in Oberlin, Kansas, on March 8, 1936 to the late Abbott Morton and the late Margaret (Kline) Morton.
 
Mary was raised on a farm near Oberlin, Kansas, where she graduated high school. After earning her RN degree from the Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in Lincoln, Nebraska, Mary got married and moved to Savannah with her husband, the late John W. Futral. There, she cared for patients at Memorial Hospital and later, students at Savannah Christian Preparatory School. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother, she is also remembered as a sweet, caring friend who could always be counted on to provide a smile and a kind word. Mary was a woman of deep faith and had been an active member of Calvary Baptist Temple, Epworth United Methodist Church, and most recently St Luke’s United Methodist Church in Savannah.
 
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, John W. Futral, her brother, Rex Morton and by her grandson, Michael J Futral, Jr. She is survived by brother Arnold (Judy) Morton, sisters Margaret Morton Steadman and Avis (Suzanne) Morton, and sister-in-law Billie Morton; children Michael J. (Nancy) Futral Sr., Elizabeth Futral Denning, Daniel M. (Martha) Futral, and Gwendolyn Futral (Alan) Gallagher-Howard; grandchildren Lauren Futral, Taylor (Eryn) Denning, Toby (Tiffany) Futral, Andy (Jessica) Futral, Joey (Aerial) Futral, Chris (Fabiola) Gallagher, Courtney (Gabriel) Villanueva, Tess (Matt) Peterson Jones, Amelia (Ryan) Gallagher Moran, and Alec Gallagher; several nieces and nephews, and twelve great grandchildren.
 
A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11:00am at Hillcrest Abbey East Mausoleum, Savannah, GA.
