Charles Ellis Izlar
July 11, 1952 - June 24, 2025

Charles Ellis Izlar, 72, of Savannah, GA, passed away on June 24, 2025 at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, where he had received ongoing care for several years.
Charles was born in Augusta, GA. He was the son of Jack Byrd and MaryEllis Jones Izlar. After graduating from the Academy of Richmond County, he received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Georgia. He was a Certified Public Accountant and worked in Atlanta, GA, and Tulsa, OK, before relocating to Savannah, GA, in 1992.
Charles retired after more than 30 years as the Chief Financial Officer for J.C. Lewis Enterprises, which includes Lewis Broadcasting Corporation and J.C. Lewis Motor Company. In the Savannah community, he also served on the Boards of the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Savannah Country Day School, Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, and the former Savannah Bancorp, which became South State Bank. He was a member of Isle of Hope United Methodist Church where he also served on the administrative board.
Travel was one of Charles’s greatest pleasures outside of work. He was thrilled to have visited many places with his family and friends, creating memories for a lifetime.
Charles is survived by his wife Janice and their son Ellis Izlar of London, England. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Kay Izlar of Plano, TX, sister-in-law Patricia Izlar of Bamberg, SC, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jack B. Izlar, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA. His graveside service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Palmetto Club, The Landings, following the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Charles’s memory to Mayo Clinic at give.mayoclinic.org or 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905.

Janice, I am so very sorry to hear the news of Charles' death. He was such a smart, funny guy. He will be missed. I will never forget that he introduced me to the father of my only child.
