Dear Tom, you and Barbara showed both my husband Mike and me, so much kindness when we first settled in the US and became your neighbors. I will never forget how gentle and giving Barbara was - our first real "southern" friend...and what a lady! She was the epitome of elegance and good taste. I remember so vividly how generous she was to help us get sorted and make us feel welcome in our new home/country, from lending parking/pool passes to my family and wedding entourage, to advising me on plants that can withstand heat better than we could, and where to take a broken squirrel we happened upon in the street one late afternoon when she was ready with a box and a blanket. And then again with open arms at your house on the Wilmington River and more recently in your present home. It has been so very sad to see her physical state failing her and to know that these last months were particularly hard on her, but she will forever be cherished by so many. She will remain in my heart and affords me some of my sweetest memories of my years here since the early 90's, and I know without doubt, she loved you deeply. You were lucky to have found each other and to have experienced such joy. Keep on keeping on Tom. Always here if you need xxx
