Celebrating the life of

Matra Drake Jordan

August 23, 1937 - May 19, 2025

Matra Drake Jordan

Matra Drake Jordan peacefully joined her Savior in heaven on Sunday, May 18, 2025.

Matra was born in Savannah, GA to the late Milton Timothy Drake and Evelyn Dixon Drake on August 23, 1937.

Matra was a proud graduate of the “Old” Savannah High School. She remained active in and looked forward to reunions and gatherings of the “Old Guard”. After high school, she attended Armstrong Junior College. Matra enjoyed a brief career, but her true passion was being a wonderful wife to her husband of almost 68 years, Mack Arthur Jordan, and an amazing mother to her two daughters Ashley Paige Jordan and Pamela Brooks Jordan Hussey. Matra and Art moved their young family from Savannah to Birmingham AL for twelve years before making their way back home. After returning to Savannah, she served her Lord through 40+ years of devoted service to Isle of Hope United Methodist Church. Matra’s work at IOHUMC was tireless. Her love for others was spread through her devotion to IOHUMC Cooking Angels, Good Samaritans Circle and the Flower Guild (where she was praised for her flower arrangements, whether it was for Sunday services, weddings or special occasions). She helped with and appeared in the church’s summer musicals. She was especially known for her tireless work on the IOHUMC Annual “Day on the Island” Holiday Shop, where she is estimated to have made 2,000+ Christmas Wreaths over the years. She later became an active member of Good Shepard Savannah, where she was a faithful attendee continuing her deep Christian faith until her death, serving others with her big heart and tirelessly uplifting those around her.

She was a life-long member of the Savannah Area “Huntington Club” for service to others.

Matra was the ultimate “giver”. If there was a Guinness Book of World Record of Casseroles made for family, friends and strangers, we believe Matra is the Record Holder.

Matra is preceded in death by her parents and her brother Milton Timothy (Tim) Drake Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Mack Arthur Jordan of Savannah: daughters, Ashley Paige Jordan of Highgate, Australia, Pamela Jordan Hussey (Brian) of Savannah and her brother, Daniel G. Drake of Homosassa FL; her five grandchildren who lovingly knew her as Matey, Philip Ryan Hussey (Emily) of Overland Park, KS, Jordan Sibley (Alice) of Melbourne AU, Brennan Matra Hussey (Reid) of Denver CO, Kristin Sibley of Perth, AU and Sean Mannion Hussey (who, Matey had a truly special relationship) of Savannah; four great grandchildren, Caitlin, Liam, Aidan and Finnigan all of Overland Park, KS.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at the Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025 at the Good Shepherd Savannah at 22 Rose Ave, Savannah GA 31406 (same location as Isle of Hope Baptist Church). A burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Bonaventure cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances be made to the Good Shepherd Savannah, P.O. Box 15624, Savannah, Ga, 31416.

Art & Family, My heart is with you during this time of great loss. Matra was the epitome of grace-a loving, compassionate, and godly Southern lady who lived her faith daily through kindness, generosity, and her quiet strength. Her unwavering love for the Lord, her family, friends, and community was evident in every interaction, and she made all who knew her feel seen and valued. I was truly blessed to experience Matra's beautiful spirit through her deep friendship with my amazing mother, and through the treasured relationship she and Art shared with my parents. Her light shone brightly, leaving a legacy of love and faith that will continue to guide and inspire those of us who were fortunate enough to call her friend. Please know I am holding you all in prayer, asking for peace and comfort as you learn to navigate life without her physical presence. Her spirit, however, will remain with us - forever a beacon of love and grace. Much Love- Kelli Anderson Weis
