Celebrating the life of
Noreen Mangiero
Passed away on May 10, 2025

Noreen Mangiero, 90, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2025, at her home in Savannah, Georgia with her loving family at her side. She was born in Staten Island, New York to the late Walter J. and Hannah McFadden Birkle. Mrs. Mangiero was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and was a member of the Council of Catholic Women. She was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School for Girls (Staten Island, New York), and she attended Flower Fifth Avenue School of Nursing (Manhattan, New York).
Mrs. Mangiero worked as a bookkeeper for various small businesses and hospital finance offices. While she thoroughly enjoyed her work outside the home, her proudest achievement was making a loving home for her family, raising her children, and opening the doors of her home to visits from family and friends. She was known for her grace and strength. She was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and always offered them her loving encouragement.
Preceding Mrs. Mangiero in death was her husband, Edward C. Mangiero to whom she was married for 61 years. They lived, worked and raised their family in Staten Island until moving to Savannah in 1991 to begin their retirement years. They thoroughly enjoyed their time in Savannah, the people they met, the church where they worshipped, and the hobbies they pursued. These things and the pleasant climate in Savannah all contributed to their happiness each day.
Mrs. Mangiero was also predeceased by her youngest daughter, Susan Mangiero Alverson.
She is survived by her son, Edward Mangiero (Lori), two daughters, Gail Barndollar (Michael), Carol Mangiero, her brother Rev. Msgr. Walter A. Birkle, her sister, Cheryl Decker (David), four grandchildren, Eddie Jr., Michael (Jen), Cristina (Lamar) and Russell (Alexandria), six great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Drs. Masood Ahmed, Margaret McCormack, and Grant Lewis for their compassionate care. A heartfelt thanks goes out to Mrs. Mangiero’s “fifth grandchild” Nadira Johnson and Nadira’s staff of loving caregivers.
