Daniel Edward Hanlon, III

Daniel Edward Hanlon III, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 8, 2025, surrounded by his two sons at The Marshes on Skidaway Island. He was born on December 2, 1937, in New Jersey, to Daniel Edward Hanlon Jr. and Alyce Bunton Hanlon.
Dan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Donna Lee Hanlon. He is survived by his sons: Daniel Hanlon IV and his wife Denise of West Townsend, MA, and James Hanlon and his wife Denise of Sharon, MA; as well as five cherished grandchildren: Alexandra Hanlon, Nathan Hanlon, Victoria Hanlon, Daniel Hanlon V, and Megan Hanlon.
Dan earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from Hofstra University and a Master of Science in Engineering from New York University. His career began in the U.S. Navy Reserves, followed by decades of work as an aerospace engineer. He worked with Sperry Corporation on Long Island, NY, and later in Charlottesville, VA, before joining Northrop Corporation in Norwood, MA, where he rose to serve as general manager. He later led the Aircraft Division at Northrop Grumman in Los Angeles, CA.
Throughout his life, Dan lived in Bay Shore, NY; Charlottesville, VA; Hingham, MA; Redondo Beach, CA; and Savannah, GA. In retirement, he and Donna enjoyed life at The Landings on Skidaway Island, where they spent time golfing, traveling, researching family genealogy, and worshiping at St. Peter’s Church.
A memorial service will be held at St. Peter’s Church at a later date.
