Celebrating the life of
Mary Anne Gordon Roberts
July 16, 1942 - April 14, 2025

Mary Anne Gordon Roberts passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025. She enjoyed visits from her adoring family prior to her passing, and her spirit and courage will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Mary Anne was born on July 16, 1942, in Washington, D.C., to Bartley Patrick Gordon, a dedicated State Department official, and Mabel Evelyn Money Gordon. Her early years were marked by adventure as she traveled the world with her parents, living in Greece, the Netherlands, England, and Germany. She graduated high school in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and like her parents, developed a remarkable proficiency in several foreign languages. Her love of exploration continued as she later settled in Washington, D.C., and attended American University, where she began her family in 1963.
In 1980, she married James T. (Tom) Roberts, an Army officer, which led to many years of military family life taking them from Washington, D.C. to Alabama to Fort Hood, Texas, and back to the D.C. area, then to Fort Sam Houston, Texas where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas, San Antonio. Tom retired from the U.S. Army, and their shared experiences became a part of their story.
During her professional career, Mary Anne worked for the American Bankers Association, First Union Bank, Citizens and Southern Bank, and later, Wachovia Investments and First Command as a licensed agent. She also held real estate licenses in Virginia, Alabama, Texas, and Georgia, excelling in every role she undertook.
Mary Anne was involved in her community as a member of the Garden Club of Savannah, the Navy League, the Military order of the World Wars, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Military Officers Association of America. Her commitment to the service extended to various Republican clubs and her role as a delegate to the Georgia State Convention.
Among her favorite past times was regaling her family with incredible, almost cinematic, stories of her travels. She also had a wonderful sense of humor, creating moments of warmth and joy wherever she went.
Mary Anne is survived by her husband, Tom; her children, Marsha Reinig-Umana and Fritz Reinig; her stepchildren, James T. Roberts III and Darby Michelle Roberts; and five grandchildren: Nicholas and Chris Umana, Maxine and Vance Reinig, and Alex Roberts.
A vistation will begin at 3:00 until 5:00, this Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Fox & Weeks Hodgson Chapel. The committal service will be be at 1:15, Monday, May 5, 2025, in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests considering a donation to the American Cancer Society in Mary Anne’s honor.
I love you, Mom, and miss you dearly. But you live forever in our hearts and thoughts. I'll hear your laugh and see your smile forever.
