Celebrating the life of

Samuel (Pete) Tapley

August 23, 1934 - April 14, 2025

Samuel (Pete) Tapley

Samuel Tapley, known affectionately as Pete to all who loved him, passed away peacefully in the early hours of April 14, 2025, at the age of 90.

Born in Swainsboro, Georgia, and raised on a farm, Pete learned the value of hard work early in life, a quality he carried with him throughout his years. He served proudly in the U.S. Coast Guard for a decade and later ran his own one-man appliance repair business, earning a reputation for honesty, skill, and dedication.

Pete was a longtime parishioner and usher at St. Francis Cabrini Church, where his steady presence and warm smile welcomed countless members of the community. He was also known for his deep love of fishing and for hosting legendary Christmas Eve parties in Brooklyn, New York, gatherings full of joy, music, and lasting memories.

It was in Brooklyn that Pete met the love of his life, Diana, at Chesterfield’s. For Pete, it was love at first sight. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, love, and family. They raised their daughter, Margaret—affectionately called Dixie—in Brooklyn before eventually settling in Savannah, Georgia, where they’ve shared many happy years.

Pete is survived by his beloved wife Diana; his daughter Dixie; grandchildren Julie Tapley, Emily Pagnaotta, and Michael James Tapley Parker; and his brother Lynn Tapley. He will be remembered for his kindness, his unwavering devotion to family, his strong faith, and the countless stories and smiles he shared with everyone he met.

Pete’s legacy is one of love, service, and resilience. He will be dearly missed by all who had the honor of knowing him.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A Rosary service will immediately follow the visitation at 6:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Fr. Gabe Cummings celebrating. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery.
