Celebrating the life of

Wayne Black

February 01, 1946 - April 05, 2025

Wayne Black

Wayne King Black, 79, was born in Savannah, Georgia, on February 1, 1946, and passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025. He grew up in the close-knit community of Thunderbolt, Georgia, where his lifelong love for the water began. Wayne proudly served his country as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. After his military service, he became a skilled and respected IBEW Local Union 508 member. He later shared his knowledge and passion by teaching at the Vocational Technical School in Savannah. He retired as a port captain with Star Shipping.

Beyond work, Wayne loved coaching little league sports, where he shared his patience, encouragement, and competitive spirit with generations of young athletes. He took great pride in shaping not just players but young people. In retirement, he found joy in boating and fishing in the beautiful waters of the Herb River, where he felt most at peace.

Wayne is lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda Black; his son, Cass Black, and his wife, Marilyn; his daughter, Stacey Peacock, and her husband, Randy; and his beloved grandchildren, Reed and Abby Peacock and Maddie and Bryce Black. He is also survived by his brother, Charles Black, his wife, Nancy, and several cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Black; his mother, Ruth; his brother, W.D. Black; and his sister, Arlene.

Wayne had a heart for service and was always ready to lend a hand. His generous spirit and quiet strength touched the lives of many, and he will be sadly missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration and visitation will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fox & Weeks Funeral Home, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406.
Instead of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to The Salvation Army, a cause close to Wayne's heart.
