Elizabeth Fowler White, known as Beth and Lizzy, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025 at her home in The Landings on Skidaway Island, Savannah at age 78. She was born April 5, 1946 in Maryland to Dr. Benjamin Fowler and Mrs. Adelaide Fowler, the first of four children. After her father completed his service as a surgeon in the Army, they moved to Nashville to be close to her father’s family.
Growing up in Nashville, she attended St Cecilia and was elected to the presidency of the Nashville Girl’s Cotillion Club. After Beth completed her collegiate program at Peabody School in audiology and speech pathology, she held positions that reflected her wide array of interests and talents. These positions included computer programming, manufacturing orthopedic devices, selling fine jewelry, and starting a Porthault French linen import business. She volunteered at the Bill Wilkerson Center for the deaf and those with cerebral palsy and supported The Nashville Children’s Theatre.
Beth married Weldon Bailey White, Jr., in 1984 and helped raise his two sons as if they were her own. Beth and Weldon loved to travel and spent time with a wide variety of people from all walks of life. Some highlights included their travel in Tuscany and their properties in Palm Beach and Jupiter, Florida.
By nature a caregiver, she provided support to her parents throughout their lives and tended their gravesides after. She was an exceptional organizer who could pack a suitcase better than anyone!
Beth was reserved but friendly, with a quick-witted sense of humor that always delighted those around her. She was very creative and could think of a name for anything. She never sought the spotlight, preferring to focus on others. She was reliable—when she took on a task, she saw it through—and had a quiet strength that showed in how she handled life’s challenges. She liked things done her way but was generous with her time and resources.
In 2020, Beth moved to Skidaway Island with Weldon while battling a long, terminal illness. She faced it with the same steady resolve she brought to everything else. She is survived by Weldon, Bailey, and Wallace White, and her sisters, Barbara Greene and Adelaide Herrington, and her brother Benjamin Fowler. She is predeceased by her parents.
The family will conduct a private service at the Fowler family lake house in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Donations may be made to The Nashville Children’s Theatre or the Junior League of Nashville.
