Gary Lord

Savannah, GA – Gary Lord, 76, passed away peacefully at his home on February 10, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Harry Lord and Ouida Bonnie Durrence; his brothers, Harry Dewayne Lord and Ray Chester Lord; brother-in-law, Charles Edward Novinger; and grandson, Jacob Stephen Lord.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Joyce Alice Lord; his sisters, Joyce Ann (Maurice) Petty and Diane Ida Novinger; sister-in-law Sharon Lord, his children, Barbara Ann (Spencer) Rahn, Ouida (David VanDyke) Lord, and Gary Lord II. He was the proud grandfather of Jennifer (Mark) Zeigler, William (Misty) Barton II, Christopher Barton, and Joshua Lord, as well as great-grandfather to Katelyn (Bodhi), Rose, Kendra, Trace, Brantley, Mason, and Kase. His great-great-grandchildren, Koe and Magnolia, were an endless source of joy. Gary was also loved by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gary retired from Gulfstream after 35 years of dedicated service. In his younger years, he and his brother Ray, known as "The Lord Brothers," were well-known racecar drivers in the Stock Car–Street Division at Oglethorpe Speedway during the 1970s and 1980s.

A man of many passions, Gary loved bowling and playing darts in local leagues, throwing horseshoes, and fishing with friends. He was an avid Braves and Georgia Bulldogs fan, never missing a game. Some of his happiest moments were spent visiting The Legion – Post 184, working on carpentry and woodwork projects, and simply enjoying time with his family. His deep love for animals was always evident, and he encouraged others to support their local animal shelters.

A Celebration of Life service will be announced at a later date. In remembrance of Gary, donations may be made to your local animal shelter.
