Richard "Rich" Leonard Tincknell

November 11, 1943 - January 31, 2025

Richard

Richard "Rich" Leonard Tincknell

Richard "Rich" Leonard Tincknell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Savannah, GA, at the age of 81. Born on November 11, 1943, in Auburn, NY, he was the cherished son of Barbara and Metford "Jimmy" Tincknell.

Rich grew up with his sister Susan and late brother Greg in Weedsport, New York. He proudly served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Rich graduated from both Cornell University and Syracuse University with honors.

He built a beautiful life with his devoted wife of 46 years, Dianne, and together they raised two children, Amy and Matthew. Rich had a successful career in the insurance industry, earning respect through his integrous and helpful approach.

Passionate about family, friends, and faith, Rich stayed active playing tennis, remained a loyal Syracuse Orange fan, and enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles with remarkable speed. He also cherished spending time with the men from his Sunday school class at First Baptist Church of the Islands, sharing fellowship and faith together.

Rich will be remembered for his optimistic outlook, calm and quiet demeanor, and witty sense of humor. His devotion to Jesus was the foundation of his character, guiding him to treat others with honor, respect, and love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He is survived by his wife Dianne, children Amy Smith (Jason - Bluffton, SC) and Matthew (Melissa - Milton, GA), his grandchildren Savannah, Summer, Mary Claire, Gregory, and James, and his sister Susan Rossi (David - Skaneateles, NY), as well as other beloved extended family.

A Celebration of Life will be led by Pastor Brooks Cail at First Baptist Church of the Islands on Wilmington Island on Friday, February 7, 2025 at 1:00pm. Reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude’s, Tunnel to Towers, First Baptist Church of the Islands, or a ministry of your choice.

Anyone who knew Rich for very long had the urge to smile when they saw him coming. I've known him for 6 years from Church/SS. One of the most genuine people I've ever met. Always said what he thought; Much more often than not with humor and instruction. A Great Renaissance Man! I'm thinking when Kipling wrote "If" he had someone like Rich in mind. Sincerest condolences to Dianne and Family. Rich is now valued here and in Heaven! RS, Stan Jones

Dianne and family. I was so sorry to hear of Rich's illness and passing. What a lovely obituary for a gentle man.

- Connie Patterson, Cayuga, NY

My condolences to Diane, family and sister, Susan. Rich's, mother Barbara and my mother, Grace were best of friends. I have only seen Rich on a few occasions, since we left Weedsport high school. I know he came from a super kind and respected family. I'm not surprised at reading his obituary and the kind words from friends and family. Sincerely, Bronwyn (Jones) O'Connor

Some people have had a positive influence on my life. Rich Tincknell was one of them. Years ago, Rich and I were neighbors in Wellington, Florida. With our wives, we both were raising young families and trying to make ends meet. In the few years we spent together, I realized what a quality person Rich was. Rich was a man's man, a family man and a good man! I was lucky for the time we had together, and I shall never forget him. Our sincere condolences to the Tincknell family, Rick and Joan Dwyer, Tallahassee Florida
