David John Hatlett

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David John Hatlett, 56, of Savannah, Georgia, on November 24, 2024. Born October 7, 1968 in Las Vegas, Nevada, he is a beloved son, brother, and friend. David’s warmth, generosity, infectious smile and passion for life will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.

David was a proud graduate of Windsor Forest High School, class of 1987, where he forged lasting friendships and began his lifelong journey of kindness and camaraderie. Known for his caring nature, he was the first to offer a helping hand to those in need, and his unwavering loyalty made him a friend to many. He would do anything for those he loved, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him. David attended Armstrong State University where he assisted with staging and production of the Battle of the Bands.

From being there when his friends needed a ride, a shoulder, or some quirky restaurant; his friends were his family. He was there for not only his friends but their children as well.

An avid enthusiast of military collectibles, David spent countless hours curating and expanding his treasured collection. His passion for history and dedication to preserving the past brought him immense joy, and he was always eager to share his knowledge with others. He was active in living history, volunteering time at Ft. Pulaski representing soldiers of the time period and even traveled to England to do reenactments for the English Civil War.

David also had a deep love for his Mini Coopers, cars he proudly maintained and competed with at shows. Whether cruising through town or out of town trips showing off his pride and joy at car events, his Minis were a reflection of his spirited personality and love for the things that made him happy.

David was worked at the Drop Zone since high school, Bennigans, Honey Bake Ham, Watkins Motor Lines and Gulfstream.

David’s infectious smile, sense of humor, and open heart will be greatly missed. He was a friend who brought light to every room, and his legacy of love, generosity, and passion for life will continue to inspire all who knew him.

David was proceeded in death by his father Robert G. Hatlett, his mother Betty A. Hatlett and his brother Robert G. Hatlett II.  Surviving him is his sisters Barbara A. Fling, Elizabeth N.Budd, and his brother William F. Hatlett and their children.

GUEST BOOK

David I miss you. You were a good brother. Love you bro!

- Barbara Fling, Savannah, GA

David, I am so saddened by this news. You were always the first one to say I’ll help with Helenblitz. The shenanigans will never be the same without you. The laughter that we shared on mini runs and events was always a bright light. May you rest in peace. The world is a darker place wi5 out you. May your family find some peace in this difficult time.

- Carol thomas, Adams center , Ny

David, it was so much fun getting into shenanigans with you at Helenblitz and MINIs on the Dragon through the years. I still have the WWII nursing recruitment poster you gave me on the door of my office, and the run you led in the snow up Blood Mountain where we drifted down was my all-time favorite Helenblitz run ever. The world is darker without your light, my friend.

- Heather McCloy, Arden, NC

David has been a cherished friend and mentor. Actually, that's selling him short. He's been my big brother for the last 35 years.
