Charles Cleon Lewis, Sr. “Pop” 89, died peacefully Friday December 20, 2024 surrounded by his Family. Cleon was born in Manassas, Georgia, and was a graduate of Commercial High School. A devout Christian, he was a member of Bible Baptist Church. Throughout his Christian Life, he was a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and member of the Silver Nuggets.

After High School, Cleon married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Sandiford. They were married for 60 years and raised four sons together until her untimely passing in 2016. After working for Kaiser Chemicals for a few years, Cleon began his Residential Home Construction Business. For the next 54 years, he built homes for Family, Friends and customers who still enjoy living in the houses to this day. Cleon had a gift of making everyone he met to feel loved. Spent his whole life loving and serving others, especially his Family. He was affectionately called Pop by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and all of their friends who had the pleasure to know him.

Cleon was blessed to fall in Love again after his Nancy passed away to Martheda Humphries. They spent four wonderful years together worshiping the Lord at Immanuel Baptist Church and then to Bible Baptist Church until she was called home by our Lord and Savior. Cleon immersed himself into his friends at high school quarterly Cobra Club luncheons, his Church Friends on Friday night dinners at Carey Hilliard’s and taking Friends to various doctor’s appointments, grocery stores and just visiting those who were sick.

Cleon was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton and Frances Lewis, his wife Nancy S Lewis, his wife Martheda Humphries, and his sister Fredna M. Yost. He is survived by his four sons - Charles (Chuck) Cleon Lewis, Jr.(Karla), Craig S. Lewis(Laurie), Carey Alan Lewis(Francois) and Chad E. Lewis. Six beautiful grandchildren - Chip Lewis, Brett Lewis (Kathy), Amanda Hambrick, Stephanie Melton (Josh), Taylor Henderson (Trey) and Chasen Lewis. Six beautiful great grandchildren - Maddy Hambrick, Luca Lewis, Liam Lewis, Bentley Henderson, Anastasia Melton and Millie Lewis.

The Lewis Family would like to specially thank Polly Jeffers for her Love and Relationship with Pop for this last year of his life. A special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses at St Joseph’s Hospital in the CCU and ICU.

A Celebration of Life/Memorial Service will be held at Bible Baptist Church on January 4, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Private Family Burial will be at Forest Lawn.

Cleon will be missed by a lot of people. When I saw him he wouldsay, "you keeping Charles straight I would say trying to." Then he would talk about the Chick fllay peach milk shake . The last time I saw him he told me he had one of the last peach Milkshakes {end of the summer} I will think of him if I get another peach milk shake. So sorry for his family,s loss.

We met Mr Cleon in 2015 when we bought our land on Daufuskie. He was alway so kind and just a sweet man to know. He will always be considered part of Daufuskie Island.
