Nancy Norton Wright Stephens

Nancy Norton Wright Stephens, 85, of Atlanta, passed away under the care of Hospice Savannah and surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Nancy was born on May 18, 1939, in Atlanta, Ga to Adrian and Evelyn Norton. She grew up in the West End area of Atlanta, graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1957. She attended Georgia State University, until the sisters at St Anthony’s school begged her to teach their middle school children. Nancy loved to tell the story about how she took all these pre-teens on a trip to Washington DC all by herself. What an experience!

In 1961, Nancy married the love of her life, David Wright and by 1967 they were the parents of three small children. Nancy stayed at home raising their children in Dunwoody, Ga, while at the same using her creative talents to bring income to the family. Nancy’s best-known business was Flowers By Nancy, where she created unique custom floral arrangements. She also made tennis skirts and sold limited partnerships.

Nancy had a beautiful voice, singing in the church choir. She loved to entertain using her talents. Nancy was known for her long-handwritten spiritual letters. She was also an avid ALTA tennis player. With all this going on she still made sure her family had a home-cooked meal every night.

After the death of her first husband, Nancy moved to Ocala, FL where she met John Stephens. For many years they had a small horse farm. She embraced this new life of the horse racing business and all it entails. After John’s death in 2018, Nancy moved to Savannah to live with her daughter, Angela.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Adrian and Evelyn Norton, and husbands, David William Wright, Sr until his death in 1988 and John Stephens until his death in 2018.

Survivors include her children, Angela Wright Ogletree of Savannah, David William Wright, Jr. of Atlanta, and Alison Wright Toledano (Robert) of Cumming; sister, Jerilyn “Cookie” Emerson (John) of Albuquerque, NM. She was Nana to her seven grandchildren: Nicholas Toledano (Olivia), Candler Wright (Kristina), Alexander Ogletree, Christopher Toledano, Alvina Ogletree, Andrew Wright, and Amelia Toledano. She also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Nancy was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wilmington Island in Savannah, GA.

Visitation will be from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, on Monday, December 30th, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Savannah, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00am.

Interment will be at 2:00 pm, Sunday, January 5th, at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, GA.
