Celebrating the life of

Mildred Sparks Mayo

February 26, 1938 - December 19, 2024

Mildred Sparks Mayo

Mildred Sparks Mayo, 86, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024. Born on February 26, 1938, in Portal, Georgia, she was one of 15 children born to JW and Mamie Dell Sparks.

Mildred was a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and a beacon of compassion and faith. She married the love of her life, Tom Mayo, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and family. Together, they raised four daughters: Cindy (Brian) Vogel, Donna (Bill) Mitchell, Mary (Bert) Taylor, and Brenda (Richard) Hyde. Mildred’s family continued to grow, and she was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.

She is also survived by her sister, Myrtice Williams, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Mildred lived a life grounded in faith and service. She loved Jesus and embraced her role as a source of love and strength for her family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her pure heart and genuine compassion made her a friend to all.

She found joy in gardening, a hobby that reflected her nurturing spirit. During her time in Virginia, she led with enthusiasm as president of the local bowling league and the wives' club, demonstrating her ability to bring people together with kindness and dedication.

Mildred’s family invites loved ones to celebrate her remarkable life and legacy during a service held on December 27th at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.

Her gentle spirit and enduring love will be dearly missed but forever cherished by those she touched.
